Part for 1986 Chevy Caprice?

I just purchased a car that needed work on. The main thing that's wrong with the car that it needs a front transmission our something like that but I would like to know some general information about it and what it's purpose is. Once that has been done I would like to see a link where I can purchase one of these parts.
 
I'm sorry to say but your question is a little vague. If by chance you are referring to a front pump seal, which is not uncommon to need replacing, it is a seal that goes in the trans pump housing and seals against the hub of the torque converter. Any parts store would carry such a part. Problem is, you'll have to drop the trans in order to replace it.
 
Your first purchase for this vehicle should be a repair manual, available online, perhaps thru www.jcwhitney.com; then you can see what parts you need and search for them by correct name :}
