Parkinson and Russell Brand on Paul O'Grady

I dont see what was rude about asking a genuine question, Brand was comenting on what happened so why not ask why they made such stupid comments on someones answerphone and why they thought it was so funny.

I always thought the Daily Mail;s witch hunt was ridiculous and the way Sachs granddaughter milked it for every penny was equally pathetic, that does not mean I would condone their comments to sachs and also that does not mean that if Brand talks about it that someone cannot ask why he thought it was funny at the time because after all it wasnt funny .

He has never made a seceret of it and just because he talks of it often does not make that wrong either.

Parkinson emerges from all this as a lovely man: proud of his Yorkshire roots, passionate about cricket, devoted to his family and grateful for his career success. I finished the book feeling like I knew more about where he's been and what he's done, but not that I knew him well

Mr Parkinson is always proud to tell the world his father was a miner, he was brought up in Barnsley, he played cricket with Boycott and Bird and he has good Yorkshire teeth.

The godfather of interviewers made a great interviewee, chatting at length about his working class Yorkshire roots

Plan B was just dreadful! I was expecting so much more from him, but he was rather dull and boring, and was either drunk or on something!

I thought I was the only person to notice, glad to see I wasn't imagining things!

Nevermind RB and MP, I thought Plan B was out of it last night, He didn't look at the camera properly, (Looking at the ground) and insisted on finishing his story about what happened on this estate he was filming on when Paul wanted to talk about his music.

Michael Parkinson was an intelligent, articulate interviewer who bothered to put in a lot of work researching his guests and composing decent in-depth questions that were designed to elicit expansive responses and usually did. Meg Ryan was a notable exception. She wasn't comfortable with Parkinson's probing, more formal technique and clammed up prompting Parky to bristle because he wasn't sure how to deal with this; what is a guest doing on his show if she doesn't want to be questioned? Hasn't she seen it before?

However, just because Parkinson was a talented interviewer (you may not have liked his style but in that style he was talented) doesn't make him a great guest. He does seem to have a problem with Brand so putting them on the same show doesn't sound like a great plan. Sometimes conflict can make for entertainment but I think anyone who thought there would be some in this pairing needs to examine his/her instincts.

I was just curious as I knew Parkinson has been on Wossy twice. One was a special one-on -one interview and one was a regular episode. The regular episode was only a couple of episodes before Ross' suspension by the BBC on 3 October 2008. (When was the actual prank aired on Ross's radio show) On his second appearance, Alan Carr was also a guest and I remember Parkinson at the time, saying that he would be willing to host The Sunday Night Project. (It was still on then).

Anyways, he seemed to be enjoying himself on the show, but I don't think he particularly cares for Russell Brand. I am a bit confused as I wonder what type of chat/entertainment shows he prefers. I always thought he liked Ross's show but perhaps that changed due to the Sachs incident. I bet he prefers Carr over Norton in the "niche" talk shows.

I do think Parkinson is an old school type of person and as the world changes so does the way the way that television evolves!

Paul O'Grady obviously identified that Parky was going to make things uncomfortable for Brand and quite quicky statred joking around to steer things away from Brand being put under pressure.

Whether he did this because he likes Russel Brand or because he didn't like the idea of one guest being snarky towards another, who knows?

I saw most of the show, Parkinson is old school but he is right on most things IMHO there is too much "Celebrity" on tv now & I though O'grady was rude just because the guests were chatting to each other so what did he do ? go & polish the set behind him so childish prissy idiot, wish I'd found something more interesting to do now:)

Parky has always been a pompous bore. Brand is not my cup of tea, so the two of them weren't a treat for me. The audience were worse than either, however, IMHO - what on earth are they on?

he only stopped it because if he'd let it carry on it would have meant the show was in grave danger of actually becoming interesting, which of course would never do, this is paul o'grady after all.

Parkinson has obviously been very successful in his field for many years but unfortunately he comes across as a rather bitter, "back in my day" type of person now.

He must have great difficulty talking at all during all those years with his tongue so far up Billy Connollys' @rsehole.
