Parents won't help with car loan! Should they?

Hi guys,
I bought my first car about six months ago for $2,800 and it's cost me about $6,000 all up because It's a lemon! I got no help from my parents with that car, I'm trying to sell it for $3,200 at the moment, with only one call so far.

I've finally found the perfect car, 93 toyota celica, absolute bargain $3,900 with low k's and apparently they last forever and never break down. I'm broke at the moment, no money in the bank as my current car has a fuel problem and costs me $100 in fuel per week, and the brake pads are starting to grind, plus many other potential bad things about to happen according to mechanic! I need to get rid of it but my parents refuse to help me at all! It's sending me broke, I can't save for my textbooks (which they also don't help me with) and my car isn't safe at all, as it occasionally stops accelerating and brakes are poor.

Is it fair that they help me out by getting a $5,000 loan? The car is only $3,900 so I can whack $1k on the loan straight away, sell my car for $3,000 then whack that on and only owe $1,000 on the loan, which I can easily pay as I ear $200 a week, and I would save a lot of money on petrol with the new car to pay it easily.

Am I being selfish? Or should my parents help considering i'm in uni and need a decent car that doesn't chew through petrol and cost me $1,000 to fix at a time? It's causing me so much stress, every time I save money it breaks down!
