Do you think that if a kids parents are really depressed about their own weight and always complain that they're fat, do you think that the kid could get an eating disorder? Sorry if that doesn't make sense.. lol i just woke up :P

But do you think parents shouldn't constantly talk about being fat in front of their kids?

Thanks for your time!

I don't think complaining about your weight will benefit a kid in any way. I think displaying good eating habits is very important. It will make the kid more and more self conscious about their own weight if the kid's parents are constantly talking about being over weight.

I don't necessarily think that it is bad for a parent to complain about themselves being fat. As long as they are properly addressing their health problems with a proper diet and exercise plan, the kid can learn. If the parent is doing nothing about their weight, but complaining or losing a few pounds and giving up they can be causing a child severe damage. This could develop into an eating disorder because fat parents keep fat foods around so a child may feel helpless with their choices and become anorexic or bulimic. Even if an eating disorder is not caused the parents are setting a horrible example for their child. Losing weight is attainable for everyone. Complaining about losing weight and not losing the weight is having a "quitter attitude". Losing weight is hard and a parent accomplishing losing weight can be very inspirational for a child. A parent failing time and time again lets a kid know that if things get too hard you can quit.
