Paranormal Activity

It is a slow film but the last 20 min are tge scariest but you have to watch the begining to understand what's exactly happening.

I agree thigh WTF are chavs ruining films I mean twice I watched it and both had chavs in there talking loud, Eating loud abd laughing. Seriously why don't they just stat home or on the street corners and drink there Cheap cider and cigarettes they ruin films.

Parts of this movie are extremely creepy indeed but the rest is just horror movie hokum: constant screaming/whining, handy picture in the attic, never turning lights on, compulsory huge kitchen knife, burning ouija board no one ever mentions even though they filmed it, etc.
The most mysterious thing about the movie is how these two losers can afford such a great house as neither ever seem to do any work.
Also Katie's huge norks are so distracting it's difficult to focus on anything else.

I've been looking forward to this movie for ages. Finally watched the DVRABcreener last night, alone and in the dark.

The two scenes mentioned above in spoilers were terrifically effective. Really deliciously scary.

But overall I was kind of disappointed. The scenes with the
psychic and ouija board
felt really lazy and detracted rather than enhanced the atmosphere.

Blair Witch was a much better piece of storytelling.

I do want to like this movie though so will watch it a few more times and check out the alt versions.

If it's any consolation Geoff, it freaked me a little too. I watched it alone, in the dark and I was genuinely jumpy after it finished.

It's quite rare I get affected by horror films.

I think Paranormal Activity works so well because it plays on a lot of childhood thought processes like looking down long dark hallways and making a million shapes out of nothing. Footsteps, movement, the unseen, being watched. It was like all those things you had forgotten about came back to remind you that maybe, just maybe, there is something in the attic.

I'm not too bothered about the useless ending, as the scaring had already been achieved.

I quite like the sound of the throat cut ending though.

Don't agree with that. I thought the screener ending was better. Still enjoyed the cinema ending, but it was something we'd seen before whereas the screener ending fitted better with the whole unsettling nature of the film.

Thought it was terrible, was really looking forward to it and was bitterly disappointed in how long it took for things to start actually happening, and then when it did it was still pretty

Question 1: Why did they not call the demonologist guy earlier?
Question 2: When the psychic guy said he has to leave the house as he can't talk in there, why did they just not leave the house and talk outside?

I think they didn't call him because the bf was against the idea and felt he would be able to sort this out himself (I'm assuming you meant earlier in the film as to earlier in their 'lives' as she had only just started to be 'haunted' again)

Remember it's the girl who is being haunted and not the house, therefore the demon would still follow them outside or be aware that she's talking to him outside. That's why they couldn't just leave the house as you instantly would do. Thought that was a clever way round the whole 'why the hell wouldn't you just run out the house' questions.

I agree it needed a little less of the intro but I like how it didn't just go mental from start to finish. That for me made it scarier because it built up slowly with only a few things happening.

I saw this last night and thought it was great. It's the type of movie that really gets under your skin and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. These days it seems horror has become synonymous with blood and gore but I think it's much more effective and scarier when the threat is suggested and 'psychological', such as in this film (and Blair Witch Project).

I like to think I'm a pretty rational person and I don't believe so much these days in the supernatural (which stems from disbelief in religion) - but this film really has me creeped out! I dread to think how I am going to sleep tonight...

Re. the cinematic ending I saw, I thought it was a good way to end - it ended with a real bang, so to speak, a final jump-out-of-your-seat scare. And it leaves you with questions in your head, which is good..

I see they've got plans for Paranormal Activity 2 which is a real disappointment!! They should just leave it as it is, which is on a high, instead of sullying the name with an undoubtedly sub-par sequel. As usual the greedy execs simply have $$$ signs in their eyes.. *sigh*

You should have seen what happened yesterday. If looks could kill...a lady stood up facing 5 girls in a corner telling them to shut up.

All they replied with is "some people are so f*****' rude".

Yeah true the bf was the problem thinking back on it. But with regarRAB to them talking outside, I don't think anything happened to her/them during the day in the house let alone when she's wondering about outside during the day.

For me and my frienRAB, watching it for so long with little happening and then with less than 20 mins left something looks like it's about to happen but nothing scary happens was a bit of a bummer, nothing got any of us out of our seats or covering our eyes for.

As a horror film I'm quite disappointed in it, but I can see why most people would enjoy it.

I have not seen it yet but normally hate these shaky home video type films apart from Cloverfield I did like that film. I am not sure if i will be scared or not but might download and watch in the dark tonight or tomorrow to see if it is scary.

I think my house is haunted anyway so my resident ghost might have a look at it aswell lol

people shouldn't bother going to the cinema if they have no intention of seeing the movie....back to the topic, I've seen the screener ending, the theatrical ending (briefly, I was so scared to see it that I skipped a couple of seconRAB lol)...I prefer the screener ending, I only heard there were two endings....what is the third ending? xo

just finished watching it! oh my lord, i foudn that pretty terrifying  brilliantly built the tension and slowly made little things happen like noises etc. then when the dragging came i was totally surprised. As a person that really doesnt get scared of films i found this very scary to watch

i love horror films and this terrified me

genuinely creepy and they made excellent use of the house layout

during the night shots you were staring through the opening door waiting for something to happen

scariest bits were the simple ones

footsteps

lights going on

and, for me the worst, when she said 'somethings breathing on me'
