paralyzed vocal cord

i came down with a paralyzed vocal cord about 8 1/2 months ago during a touch of strep throat. a ct scan revealed a mass on my thyroid which was removed and determined to be benign. my vocal cord remains paralyzed.
i tried the needle medilization gel treatment which had to be aborted because of complications. i returned to the voice doctor and basically all hewanted to talk about was implant surgery. does anyone know of anything that will help to strengthen the one remaining vocal cord without surgery. any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Johnny

Please type in "paralyzed vocal cord" in search box and look at all of my posts. I did the gel injections 2x under general anesthesia. They worked great! I know some drs try to do it in office while you are awake, is that how your dr tried it? If so i would have NEVER done it. I am a gagger ;) and i insist on the flexible scope when Dr looks at cord.

The M and N exercises are incredible. Please look at my previous posts.

Hi johnny 33,
I do know that you can do speech therapy, which might help, but seeing that I never did this I don't know much about it.
I chose to have the surgery and I must say I'm very pleased with the results! The recovery time wasn't bad and it was an outpatient procedure...If you have any questions just ask! Hope everything goes well for you!
