Pan's Labyrinth on Film4 tonight at 9pm

I only got round to watching my copy the other week, and it is a fantastic film, perhaps not as good as The Lives Of Others, but both are different films
 
If that's the chap who did the music for PL, I agree. I think the music is the main reason I'm not very fussed about this film.
 
I really dont understand all of the fuss. I think it is the case of the emperors new clothes. Pedro Amaldavor films overshadow any other spanish flicks. Try Gilliams Tideland if you want a chilRAB perspective on the world.
 
I saw this on film four last night, thought it was brilliant, definitly one of the best films Ive seen.

Im of the opinion that the fantasy world in the film is to be interpreted as real, not in Ofelia's head, but its obviously open to interpretation from the director.
 
And what is the "right" language. I do not understand people who say they can't watch subtitled films. There are so many great films available in world cinema. Other than than a decent indie film output and the odd decent "blockbuster", The US film industry does not come close to the level of depth, story and creativity of films from other areas of the world. If I was asked to provide a list of great films, it would be 75% world cinema. I've even seen fantastic films from the middle east (Osama anyone?). Apart from the likes of the Lynch, Coen bros, Scorsese etc, US focuses too much on either big name, over-rated actors and special effects for the mainstream viewer.
 
I wasn't really ranting at them. However, their perception before seeing the film is typical of the English speaking countries, so it was more of a rant on this fact.

But, at least this poster gave a foreign language film a chance, and found the experience rewarding. If only more people would cease being so narrow minded.

Its a good movie, i wouldn't use the word jaw dropping because i feel at some points it lags a bit.
But it is interesting. I think i just went into it hoping for quite a deep thoughful storyline like Donnie Darko or Solaris.
But its more of a visual thing.
It does have one of the best monsters ever in it though!!!!
 
Indeed it did, which is excellent. However, compare it to the takings of any number of mind-numbing US dross that fill our cinemas, you get the real picture.

My other gripe is that so many cinema's in the UK fail to even show a lot of decent foreign and indie films (or if they do, on a very limited release), even though they have 10 or more screens. They prefer to maximise takings than provide a good level of variety, and show the same film on 5 screens or something. Now, that really annoys me :)
