Is this film any good? It is fairly recent (2006) and so I don't quite understand why it's being shown on TV so quickly, but I'm sure I heard good things about it at the time.

It premieres tonight at 9pm on Film4 with another showing on 23rd December at 9pm.

It's brilliant. Definetly watch it!

It's set during the Spanish Civil war, so unless you're slightly familiar with it some of the plot may go over your head. But this won't detract from the film itself.

You won't be disappointed (unless you have no taste :P).

OH MY GOD!!

This film is truly stunning. There are not worRAB to describe how great it is.

I sat spellbound for the the whole thing. Adored it.

Can you tell I really really liked it?

I saw this film at the weekend on DvD and I have to agree with the general consensus here - It's a Brilliant film. It tells two separate but completely contrasting tales very well. One is light fanciful yet strangely haunnting and charming at the same time, while the other is shocking, brutal and horrific, all the more so because it is the closest to actual reality.

I am looking forward to seeing it again and to the Director's commentary

Hmm good question, I think it neeRAB a further viewing to try and unravel them. I have heard that the little girl's story is an allegory for the choices faced by Spain at that time, but I don't really know enough about Spanish history to comment.

It's subtitled (hopefully) and there is also some of the most realistic graphic violence you're likely to see. Cracker of a film though!

One of the best films I've seen in a long time :) I watched it after having it recommended to me by my cousin, and I'm glad I did. It has the right balance between fantasy and reality, methinks.

(...yay, first post :D)

I saw this film on a college trip right, and I was really sceptical about seeing a film in Spanish. I seriously loved every second of it, and completely forgot it was not in the right language several times. :D

Amazing, wonderful, jaw dropping film. I was completely in awe of it when it came out and snapped it up on DVD when it was released.

Unmissable.

I love Pan's Labyrinth. I own both the DVD and Javier Navarrete's wonderful score, which got robbed at the Oscars! :(

Gustavo Santaolalla = One of the worst modern film composers of all time.

He has won Two Oscars.... What a farce.

Aw thanks Zeus. :D I feel warm and fuzzy inside now.

Reading this thread has actually got me thinking about the film again. The cynic inside my head thinks that it was all a figment of her imagination, although I'd like to think that it was actually real!
