panic attacks

i had a major panic attack this morning. i hate them. i feel like my heart is going to give out and i am dying. i get clammy, sweaty, shakey, shortness of breath and feel like i could pass out (but don't).

i have had attacks since 2001 after my brother in law decided to break down our front door with a sledge hammer and try to kill us. my kids were home at
the time and their ages were 4 and 2. my husband was also there and ran to get the gun we keep in the home (for fear that this might happen some day).
everything turned out ok and the brother in law went to jail for a while. during this time, my doctor put me on lorazepam and i have been taking it
since. i think i was addicted to it. needed it at night and during the day.

within the past month, i have been taking less of the medication but have felt crappy. muscle aches, headaches then this am, whammo. i am in bed right now writing this. i am wiped. i feel like i ran a marathon and could sleep.
anyone else feel this way? marie:)

Yes, I used to feel that way every day. You are definitely not alone. Your symptoms are the same as mine were. I have gotten better but still am very anxious. But I remmeber the times I just stayed in bed all day hardly moving in case I had another panic attack. Good luck.

Rebreathing in a paper sack for 5 minutes off and on will help keep the sympathetic nervous system calmed. The "fight or flight" sensation is miserable, I know from personal experience.

Give the paper sack a try in the early stage of symptoms of a panic attack.
