Palm Universal IR Keyboard and T5

I have had a Palm Universal IR keyboard for some time, but had abandoned it due to the Exception Error and inevitable crash everytime I tried to launch the keyboard driver. However, out of curiosity, I downloaded and installed the new driver 1.13. Palm tell you not to if you're using an older device such as a T5. However, it works a treat! My keyboard works perfectly and I can now configure it using the driver software without tears or crashes. Fantastic!

I'm always amazed at how many people had issues with the Universal Keyboard and their devices.

I found long ago that there were several different drivers for the T5 and "keyboards" and you needed to make certain you got the right one. Palm's site doesn't provide really good information on which driver with which keyboard so this is a good thread to tell everyone:

Make certain you have the right driver - match up the model number of your keyboard with your device to be certain you download the correct driver.

Moose Man,

The point I was making was that I DID make sure that I was using the right driver for my keyboard and it didn't work. Only by downloading and installing a driver which Palm say is not the right one for my device did I get it to work. Other users may have also been misled by the advice on the Palm website.

I have to say that I find your remarks patronising in the extreme. You imply that I'm some kind of imbecile who is incapable of downloading the right driver.

I am not impressed.

I did not mean to seem patronizing...but after re-reading my post I guess it could have been construed that way.

So let me clarify:

Link to v1.13 is as NickGB stated not listed for the T5. It's listed for the TX and some other devices. And as in Nick's case - it works for him and for me as well.

But my real point is that a novice user trying to download a driver for the Universal Wireless Keyboard would not find this driver without scrolling down nearly two pages of support search results.

Palm has no fewer than 3 different keyboards and as a such very different drivers for each.

The Universal Wireless Keyboard can also be used with a Windows Mobile/CE device and thus this means you have to be careful with the drivers.

Anyone reading this thread should be aware of these multiple keyboard types that can easily result in someone mistakenly downloading the wrong driver....that was my point.

And be prepared to use a driver that is correct for the keyboard but your device might not be listed - because Palm is so goofed up since the split of the OS that they often don't know what the effect of a driver will have on an older device.

The problem I'm finding is that if I use wireless, the keyboard driver stops working and I have to delete it and reinstall it.

But unlike a laptop, you can't just use your normal email on the Palm TX - you have to sign up with some expensive mobile phone company do get email on it.

I'm getting sorrier and sorrier I spent my hard-earned euro buying it.
