Palm TX USB sync problems 0_o

I'm the happy owner of a shiney new Palm TX and have been doing the whole instant messageing in bed thing and generally having a good time. However, there is a problem and if anyone can shed any light on it I'd really appreciate it :)

Sorry this is wordy, wanted to get anything that might help down all at once ;-)

On my recently formatted Windows XP SP1 machine I hadn't gotten around to re-installing the software for my Zire71, so went ahead and installed the Palm Desktop for the TX, with the theory of syncing the Zire71 to get addresses etc into this version then drop them across to the TX. The Zire71 didn'tplay nice, so uninstalled the new software, put on the Zire71's palm desktop and synced. TX didnt play nice USB syncing there, so uninstalled *this* palm desktop and put the TXs one back on. Attempt to sync via usb... windows spys new hardware... doesnt do a very good job on installing software for it. Windows finally decides the TX is an unrecognised USB device and claims I shud returnt it. Not beeing too keen on that idea I try syncing via USB with my Windows XP SP2 laptop.

First sync attempted to use the (already installed this time) Zire71 palmdesktop. no joy. Install TX palm desktop, sync Zire71 with it (to get contacts, agenda etc) no probs. Then goto sync TX via usb... seemed to half work at one point but had to cancel for reasons now forgotten and after a while windows just didnt event see the beast via usb 0_o I've gotten syncing happening via bluetooth now but would still like the usb option to work for the occasions where backing up large data amounts (let us not forget the 100mb user accessable storage, lol) would be painful and battery draining via bluetooth ;-)

Sorry again for the longness (that's not even I word I think... ah well) and any / all ideas / suggestion / slappings for having gone about things the wrong way are welcomed :)

I upgraded from a Handera 330. I used the existing software and synced. I did OK, but it screwed up my Handera and had to hard reset. I backed up my directories for the Palm and then deleted everything using the Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel. Then I removed anything (directories, files, etc) leftover and did a new install of the software. Everything went smooth.

It sounds like you have a similar experience. I noticed there are a lot of differences between my old desktop software and the new stuff, so I'm not too suprised at your isues. If everything is in Outlook the way you want it then you should be OK doing a new install; everything will transfer to the T|X. The only issue you migh have is after market applications and databases. These you can either beam or use the Palm Quick Install from the desktop by copying files from your backed-up directory via a simple drag-'n-drop from Windows Explorer. Good luck.

Cheers,
John

Managed to get the important data across in the end via combos of bluetooth and ir. Will try uninstalling including directories etc and see if that helps with the usb problem. Thanks :)
