palm tungsten t3

This pretty much sums it up:

"A wireless protocol that is used to communicate from one device to another in a small area usually less than 30 feet. It uses the 2.4 ghz spectrum to communicate a 1 megabit connection between 2 devices for both a voice channel and a 768k data channel. The Bluetooth specification calls for different profiles such as voice and serial emulation to be used by devices to communicate. However interoperability needs to be tested to confirm compatibility of the higher level protocols that use Bluetooth to communicate between devices. Version 1.0 requires users to register the connection between the 2 devices while version 1.1 allows a Bluetooth device to communicate with up to 8 devices."

Think of bluetooth as a cable replacement. Printer cables, phone cables, serial cables, USB cables (not power cables).

I have bluetooth on my computer, T3 and v600 cell phone and here is how I use it:

I use BT on my computer so my PDA can connect to the internet through my DSL connection. This wireless connection only extends about 10 meters, so it's not a WiFi replacement.

I take MP3s on my computer and cut them down to ring-tone sizes. I then put them on an SD card and use my PDA to send the tones to my phone. Instant free MP3 ringtones, and I get to make them out of songs I like, and not some crappy rap song.

I take pictures on my phone and then send the pictures via BT to my PDA for storage. Since my phone has 5mb of memory and my PDA has 64mb plus a bigger screen, saving them on my PDA is better.

And finally, I like to keep a small amount of contacts of people I know on my phone, but in my PDA, I usually keep the numbers of places like restaraunts, stores, malls, etc. I do this so I don't have th scrool through 200 names on my phone. With BT, I can search for a contact on my PDA, hit "Dial" and it will dial the number on my phone. All I have to do is put it to my ear and it will connect for me.

Once I get a BT headset, I won't have to touch my phone at all. I can keep it clipped to my belt and wear the BT headset. I can then make my PDA dial a number, which will connect to my phone and call, and then my phone will connect to the headset. No touching the phone at all.

Crash - I am about to buy a v600 to use with my T3. Can you please let me know the cofiguration required on the phone and the t3 to get this to work?

Also - what wireless provider do you use. Which features (t-zones etc.) do you have to subscribe to in order to browse web sites on the T3

Thanks very much for your help!

Bluetooth is also starting to be used by car manufacturers so that your PDA/Phone can enable factory installed options. Some car manufacturers are using BT for their systems so you can talk via a built-in handsfree microphone and not have to carry a headset etc. These are initially going to be on more of the highend models but Ford is incorporating them into more and more vehicles.

BT is a really just a short range radio network. The range is supposed to be 30 feet or less so as not to interfere with normal radio frequencies and devices.

Do a google search and you'll find lots of information on Bluetooth devices and manufacturers.

The v600 worked with the other Motorola profile, t280i or something like that. They only thing I can't get to work is I cant get my T3 to send SMS or MMS via my v600. That isnt a big deal, I just make them on my v600.

I use Cingular and I subscribed to the MEdia Works package, which is 19.99 per month for 1500 SMS, 150 MMS and unlimited internet.
