Palm Treo 700 VS. Moto Q. Need Help.

HI, I'm a newbee on this forum.

I'm with Telus and I would like to purchase a PDA. This would be my first.

I'm hesitating between two models right now. The Palm Treo 700 and the Motorola Q.

I will be using them mostly for emails, messenger, music, maybe go on the internet and of course talking.

I would like to know the pros and cons of both phones.

I would also like to know if I can install ICQ on these PDAs.

I plan to buy one in the next couple of weeks, I just want to gather as much info as I can to make the right decision.

Thanks for your help.

Sorry, I neglected that part about the 700w. The last Treos I had were the 600 & 650. Never went back to Palm, so the 700w might work out for you, IDK.

We got some of these for work - they are the most unreliable phones that we've ever used.

Sometimes you answer a call and the green button just doesn't do anything - the phone's ringing and you can get it to answer or even shut up.

We use Verizon's Wireless Sync - it's supposed to be push email, but it can take up to 15 minutes to get your email - when it works.

Verizon will tell you that you can tether the phone to your laptop, but apparently only the Palm OS version. I purchased some software for this functionality on the 700w. It works - sometimes. EVDO isn't really all that fast

Having Terminal Services on your cell phone is nice, you can hit your PC and use it to reset Outlook and Wireless Sync, you'll need to do that often.

No backup software comes with the phone. You can download it from the Palm web site though.

The PDA doesn't do Java. One of the reasons to choose this is for the huge amount of software compatible with the Windows Mobile OS. Actually it appears that there is even more software available for Java.

As soon as our contract is up we're dumping all of the phones and going to one of the newer Blackberries. Maybe we'll dump Verizon too, their attitude and multitude of conflicting answers have been very frustrating.
