Palm T|X Power Button

I have a Palm T|X which i recently bought, and for some reason the power button on the top needs 2 be pressed a couple of times until the pda turns on/off. I dont know if thats normal at all, being my first pda, i really dont know. So if anyone could share if they have the same problem OR solutions 2 it, that would be great. thanx

I have a Palm T5. I have had it for close to 2 years now. Off late I have been experiencing the same problem as you have. I dont have a solution to it but just being more gently with it now when I switch it on/off. Regards.

Just got my T|X, and I have the same issue. However, I use the Home button on the face, primarily, so it's not that much of an issue...

Unlike most earlier Palms the TX does require two presses under some circumstances. For instance, if you turn it OFF or if it turns itself OFF due to its power off time having just expired, it cannot be turned ON immediatley with one press. However, if you wait a few seconds before trying to turn it ON it will turn ON immediately with only one press.

If the T5 behaves this way then there must be something wrong with it.

What a ridiculous feature ...... my TX does the same thing and it is EXTREMELY annoying. Maybe someone will write a program that will disable this "double press" feature.

If you dont mind me bringing this back up again...

It's not a double press feature as far as i know. It's just a dodgy power button lol

Pretty mucht the ENTIRE TX range has the problem.

It's sort of like Palm's well known Screen Whine.

Hee Hee i've never herd of a double press feature before and if it exists it's kind of dumb.

A fix for this is try press your power button a little harder or press a different part of the button (top, left, right, bottom). It varies from device-device and YES this can happen when you FIRST get it!

It is not a feature. It is a side affect of the way the TX turns off. When you press the button to turn it OFF the screen goes blank almost immediately but the TX is not yet OFF. It is still busy doing its internal housekeeping and is not ready to respond to another button press right away.

As for pressing hard, that is a function of oxidized switch contacts and possibly of dirt/pocket lint etc. restricting the button. It is fixable but not via any software. Take the back off of the TX so you have access to the button switch. Clean out any debris in and around the entire mechanism. Wick a drop of WD40 into the switch's plunger then reassemble. It should now work very well and for a very long time.

Interseting ...... thanks.

Know of any place to get a good TX wrench (of course .......as with everything else) they change the screws from device to device it appears.

Thanks,

Syno

I know what everyone is talking about. However, push the power button gently and hold it down for about 1/2 second and gently release. It will start first time every time. It's almost like it is an intentional delay to eliminate accidentally turning on the TX with a quick touch. Whatever the reason I find this always works.

I think the most commonly used screw is the T5 TORX. If someone could confirm... or maybe you could go to a hardware store and see if it fits.

Just a note... it's TORX not Torque, they're acctually different, my dad didnt know and bought the wrong one.
