Palm T/X power button failure

Just a heads up for anyone considering a Palm. This is my third Palm. My first was a Palm V whose battery would no longer hold a charge. I replaced it with a T/X on 12/21/2006. Within 6 weeks the speaker failed. The unit was replaced (presumably with a reconditioned unit). In September the on/off switch failed. The unit was again replaced. Today the on/off switch failed once again. This PDA has never been abused, dropped or otherwise mistreated. Palm refuses any consideration. Seven days out of warranty is out of warranty, even though it is the same problem as a previous repair.

Hi
Palm TX

I also had the power button failing on my Palm. So now I don't use it anymore.
It looks like this power button was not a good idea because many people experienced problems with it.
Instead I installed
Sleep OSS
whith whom you can transfer the power OFF/ON function to any button. I transferred it to the Navigation button (the left most) and it works great since then.

Best

Daniel,

Thanks for the reply. Perhaps I can get the thing to turn on when I sync it. If so I should be able to install the app you mentioned. I'll give it a try and post my results.

Why bother remapping the power button? My TX also has a flaky power button (sigh!) but it also turns on when I press any of the four front buttons.

Because, pressing one of the four hard keys will turn the unit on, but also activate another application thereby navigating you away from what you were doing before the device powered off. PowerBtn allows you to simply turn the power back on and return the device to the state it was in when it powered off.

Can you still have auto keylock activated?

ie. Press power button (remaped or normal) and then tap "unlock" button on screen, if not tapped within a certain amount of time, Palm turns off.
