Trouble installing Palm Desktop to Toshiba Tablet. When the install comes to removing backup files the computer locks and process stops.

I downloaded the latest DT 4.1.4 today but no help. Palm site no help.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Have you disabled your Antivirus and Personal Firewall during the installation process?

Use the Control, Alt, and Del keys to bring up the Windows Task Manager to pull up all of the background running apps and turn them all off before starting the installation.

Usually the Antivirus will cause the symptoms you describe.

Thanks for the advice. I did disable trend micro and installed the DT.
?? After the install, on the Palm Desktop there is only "Quick Install" icon and no "Install" icon. In the newest version on DT is there only "Quick INstall"?
Thanks

Yes Quick Install replaces the old Install. You can open it and drag and drop the files into either the device or the SD card based upon the division line seperating the display window. The top is noted as to the device and the bottom is noted to the SD card.

Should be straight forward once you see it open but if you need further advise just ask.

Moose,
Thanks for the info.

I expected to get a choice on where to install but the QI did not allow me to choose the Palm or SD card.

I will keep playing with it. It may not be a problem for my T3 but I need to install to the SD on my iQue 3600.

Gratful for the advice.

The Palm Desktop 4.1.4 is not compatible with the Que....at least it's not suppose to be. And I didn't realize that what you were trying to sync to.

The 4.1.4 DT uses the newer enhanced PIM applications found on the T3 but not present on the Que.

I believe Garmin has stated that this desktop is not "supported" for the Que so here was my situation with the T3 and my Que - I never got them to work together but I also took a path of least resistance after not getting them to work....moved one to the laptop and left one on the PC and both were syncing to Outlook so I just kept a "ghost" running of outlook so that the databases were the same on both devices but the Palm user info was unique.

The Que is alledgely compatible with older Palm devices such as the T or the T2 because they used older versions of the Palm Desktop...but you may be in for some real issues with the T3, Z72, Treo 650 and T5 updates.

Is it possible to have 2 different versions of Palm DT on 1 computer?

I use a Toshiba Tablet and it is the only PC I have.

Thanks

The install process, I don't believe, allows you to select the directory. I just can't remember but here is what I'd suggest.

The Que really wants the default directory structure so I'd unistall everything. Delete the registry entries for the Palm, PalmDesktop and all related Palm type keys.

Reinstall the Que with it's default path's.

Then install the T3's Desktop and see if you can change the directory path's during the install.

The reason you'll have to unistall everything is that WinXP will sense the directory structure and not allow you to change it if the registry entries are still there.

You could partition the hard drive and install one on drive C and the other on drive D for example.

If the T3's install will allow you to choose a directory then you should be ok because the support files are all contained within the selected directory.

Give it a try?
