Hi Guys

Im considering painting the fairing on my 91 750ss and need some advice on what preparation is required what paint to use and the method of painting required...anyone have any good advice?

yes. You'll need a very good quality spray gun, preferably an HVLP unit. A source of compressed air with enough pressure and CFM to adequately operate the gun. You can either use basecoat/clearcoat or single stage urethane paint. Also a good catalyzed primer. Sand the piece with 500 grit wet paper after washing and cleaning it down with a wax/silicone/grease remover. When fully sanded wipe it down again with clean lint free towles and the wax remover. Mix up the primer, tack rag the piece and prime it. Follow the directions on the paint cans and mix exactly as it says. Let the primer flash off for 30 mins or so and shoot your color coats followed by the clear if you go that route. Let dry for the time specified and if you get dust nibs or orange peel then wet sand with 2500 and follow that with hand rubbing compound. Or take it to a body shop and let the pros do it.
