We bought a house and didnt realize our painting projects would include stripping walls that have had 4 layers of painted over wall paper...the house is 100 yrs old and the walls undernith are plaster and the paper pulled off parts of the wall and left adhesive stuck to it! Can i mix my paint with plaster and plaster paint? Seems like it would be eisier to do a textre paint instead of sanding everthing down?
No I havent removed all the glue because it seems impossible! We have tried but the wallpaper had to have been on there for 40 or 50 yrs! Its really stuck on there!

What exactly are you asking. First did you clean the glue off the wall (use DIF with very hot water not the premixed DIF either). Then you can patch and sand the wall smooth.

What is easier, texture paint of course, but once you texture you can go back without a lot more work than patching and sanding in the first place.

Even texture paint will shrink when it drys and you will be able to see the imperfections under it when it drys.

You need to prepare the wall. Get a 12 inch putty knife and a bucket of sheet rock compound. Apply a very thin coat of sheet rock compound anyplace where the glue is and where the torn edges of the wall paper are still attached. Smooth with the large putting knife to make the edge of the wall paper and the glue smooth out flat. When the sheet rock compound is dry, Sand with a sheet rock sand block to smooth any marks left by the putty knife.

Primer the wall and paint.
