painting my car- HAVING PROBLEMS WITH SETTING THE GUN?

ok i have a 26gal compresor. I herd you can still manage to use it. I got everything ready, and bando all dents. I went to primer all the bando spots and went to set the gun, I ran into problems. The gun wont spray how it needs to. its not a nice smooth streem. What did i do wrong? do i need to mix it? or is it the compresor?
