painting dark trim? has anyone done it?

the trim in our house is so dark and i love how white trim looks so i was planning on painting it but omg there is sooo much trim everywhere! buying new is way too expensive and we just put in new carpets throughout, new tiling in br kitchen and foyer, new doors and a new deck and painted everywhere! has anyone attempted this? what was ur experience
