Painted Inner Fairing

Makes perfect sense to me, so that you're guaranteed a perfect match, however, the bike is already at the dealer being repaired from a wreck.

I'm buying the bike from a family friend and one item that needs to be replaced is the inner fairing. So I talked to the dealer and if I want to pay the out of pocket cost to have the inner fairing painted they'll wait for it to be painted and install it. They also told me if I wanted to change out the gauges they'd install those at no charge as well.

Short story is, I won't have the original inner fairing to sell, otherwise I think that would be the perfect route to go.

Thanks for all the great replies. Anyone else that "paid" to have an inner fairing painted?
 
The out of pocket cost is whatever the difference is between $314 and the cost of a local shop shooting the inner fairing: $549, list price of inner fairing, less 20% discount leaves net cost of $439. Selling the take-off for $125 leaves out of pocket cost of $314.

For those having their inner fairing painted locally, consider having the idiot light bezel painted as well. HD's painted product doesn't include the bezel, so you end up with a black plastic bezel on the painted fairing, left to cover it with a chrome trim piece.

If you have fairing mounted mirrors, have them shot as well.

Hard to beat the cosmetic improvement for the $$$.

If your bike is an 08 or later yes, otherwise you will have a hole for the Throttle cables..But you can put an 08 and later fairing on pre-08's. I did this and had the throttle cable hole cut. this way I put the new adjustable wind deflectors on my 07.

I bought a takeoff 08 and sold my takeoff. Net cost for me to get mine painted $!25.- Perfect match.

Mine was done by a Lawrence's body shop in McSherrystown, PA. The dealers from the region use him for repair work. Also saw him doing a set of custom tin's for someone. The guy shipped them from the Midwest to have Jimmy do the work. Little Mom and pop shop.
 
I did the same thing (had the dealer paint it during a wreck repair). Don't make the same mistake I did and tell them to "paint the inner fairing", assuming they know to paint all the pieces up there. When I got the bike back they had done exactly what I had asked-paint the inner fairing, and that's ALL they painted. The pieces around the switches and my speedo bezel were still flat black. Fortunately they had also neglected to match the color, so they had to redo it all anyway.
 
So on a Batwing, isn't there only the 2 pieces? The actual inner fairing and then the fairing cap that covers the switches and goes down the sides of the fork sliders or whatever, right?
