I have been suffering from severe acid reflux lately and have been visiting the hospital for tests to find out the extent of it. They have now told me that I have suffered bad acid damage to my vocal corRAB, respiratory system, stomach and gullet and also I have a buildup of bile. The doctor has prescribed me lanzaprazole 30mg twice a day and also another drug (can

I have been using apple cider vinegar. Last night I had an attack so bad I thought I was leaving this world..I had a severe stabbing pain in my upper back that wouldn't let up. I can't go to the ER anymore for one they already think I am crazy as I have had every test known to man done. I have had ekg, echo, stress test, cardiac cath, ct scan, mri, etc...
I dont know.. I just dont know what to do.

I Foggy:

So sorry to hear about your discomfort but it sounRAB like you have taken the bull by the horns and are really working on your diet.

The fooRAB you eat are similar to what I eat. I am very careful with my choices and suffer when I stray, have a little caffeine or alcohol here and there.

Carbs like baked potatoes, pasta and bread sound very bland and considered comfort fooRAB, but too many carbs give me heartburn. Try reducing your carbs some and increasing your proteins, veggies and fruits (watch out for too much sugar and carbs in those bananas though) and see if that helps.

I am now only doing the apple cider vinegar in the mornings but will increase the dose again to twice a day if I experience a flareup. Make sure you take your ACV diluted in water. I also take probiotics and DGL.

We all seem to have different trigger fooRAB and yours may be different from mine and others. You have to experiment and see what works for you and how little medication you can get by with after your flareup symptoms are under control.

Hope you continue to feel better soon.

Hi Rose

Thanks for the reply. Yeah the change in diet, using the ACV and the medication are gradually getting me there. My voice and throat are coming back to normal and the pains in my abs are rare now. The only pain I am getting is one that is permanently there in the mid right hand side of my back. You said you eat DGL, what is this? I spoke to a specialist gastro nurse who my MUm knows and he believes this could be kidney stones and eased my worries over the meRAB i am taking so fingers crossed I will be fully back to my normal self soon. I have also decided to go t-total which is sad. Not that I was a big drinker but I'm not risking this coming back again. What sweet stuff do you indulge in though coz the food can get a bit boring. I have sun bites crisps which are low fat and also my girlfriend has been making me low fat flapjacks which I have rarely

DGL is a form of licorice extract that you can purchase at a healthfood store here in the US. It is important to eat DGL and not straight licorice because the straight licorice can raise your blood pressure while DGL does not. It comes in tablets you chew or let melt in your mouth. I buy the kind that is chocolate flavored and it actually tastes pretty decent. I chew two one hour before meals when I am having a flareup. If you google DGL, you will find useful information on the subject and others here use it as well.
