Painful Repair

I just finished replacing the spring on my saddlebag latch. What a pain!!!! I thought that it would be a quick fix... pop out the broken spring & pop in a new one. Not even close. It took 4 hours of trying to get the spring spread & aligned while sliding the rod back through it. After 4 hours I had to call someone for an extra set of hands to help. 2 sets of vice-girps, 1 c-clamp and a chisel (don't ask) finally got it done.

I consider myself fairly mechanically inclined, but that was crazy!!

LOL...it is a total pain in the arse!!! I too was surprised. It is easier the 2nd and 3rd time. It sure is nice to have that spring though.

Im reading this and laughing only because I just did mine last night. On my 08 Electra Glide, and I remeber how to do it as I also did it on my 05 Road King, I say Im laughing because when I did it on the 05RK it was such a pain in the??? It took me about two hours and I had to keep going back to the unbroken side on the bike to compare, I cut my hand with a srewdriver, so last night I was ready to do the job again I had a spare in my toolbox as I bought two last time, you have to pry open the end of the hinge, pull out the rod, then the spring where there is only one ear on it instead of required two!! rod goes thru the hinge and holds the spring. That spring is another trip!! you have to bend it to get the one leg of it over each edge ofthe hinge LOL!!! then take a vice grip and re bend the edge of the hinge so the rod wont slip out, and guess what? I only nicked my hand this time with the srewdriver!! All in all another MOCO cheap design!! Thanks Bill
