I recently noticed a few lumps near my spine on my neck they are very painful. I also have noticed that I get dizzy a lot lately and have sharp pains at the back of my skull. I went to the E.R. but they didn't seem to be to concerned about it and sent me on my way after an x ray (same hospital that took x ray of my severely broken nose and said it was a fracture), they also prescribed me a large dose of antibiotics. I have since finished my prescription, and the pain is still very much there and the headache's at base of my skull seem to be worsening. I am starting to get very worried, some days the pain is so bad i don't want to move my head off the pillow. Thank you for your time and i appreciate any responses

just why did they give you anti Bs? did they actually even Dx something to treat while you were there? you mnetioned they did do an Xray on your neck area, or someplece? just what were the overall results of that?
the only true way of really being able to actually Dx something accurately is by simple basic testing of the most likely areas and ruleing things out or in along the way. did they say just what those lumps were? swollen lymph nodes perhaps or did they not really tell you? one really great test, that just considering the symptoms and where you are having them would be to just obtain a contrasted MRI of that c spine. it would also show the lower portion of the brain and also hit about the very first 3-4 T spine vertebrae too. despite what anyone can actually 'show" upon plain old x ray when it comes to the spinal area, it cannot actually get into or down to that very important spinal and nerve root level like an MRI can. that is just the area that needs to be seen into right now just to really be able to possibly find a something that could be setting off your symptoms and also could be creating the lumps there too? sometimes just becasue this is what really inflammed nerves just do, you can get what are actually called trigger points? these are little globs of very overly tightened fascia, tissue and muscle that just get created by angry nerve signals repeatedly be sent to the muscle they are attached to? they just tend to contract upon themselves and "wad up' in/on the actual muscle. they can be VERY painful at times and usually tend to also radiate out pain too to the surrounding area as well.
i would seriously see your primary doc for that neuro eval and a referral for the MRI too. this would at least rule that area in or out as a possible generator of what you are just feeling as symptoms right now. do you have ANY actual pain or tingling or numbness that runs down either arm into the hand or problems with the fingers in any way? there is just alot of different types of possible problems that anyone can have going on up in the spinal area that can create alot of crappy stuff. stenosis surrounding any nerve root,or bone spurs(thats kind of a biggie in some people) or herniations of discs. even smaller herniations depending upon just what is actually being impacted can cause alot of problems and pain up there or down to the fingers too.
i would just see your primary to help you find the cause of this. hopefully he will send you for that MRI up there. please let me know what you find out, K? FB

thanks for your reply, sorry i had to find the doc paper before replying. They did Diagnosis a cervical muscle strain and lymphadenitis. they didn't say much about the x-ray just that everything looks okay. Also i have been taking my temperature all day today and it has been between 97.4-99.5, eye pain is reoccurring also. I went into today for a ultra sound of my gallbladder due to pains in that area and long period of soft- liquid stools. Maybe all part of same medical issue? I also set up a dental exam because my doctor recommended it due to those lumps... which i didn't understand. any reply is appreciated Thanks for your time

It sounds from what you have been told by your doc, like you have two different things going on at once. They gave you the meds. for the lymphadentitis which is an infection. And the muscle strain in your neck is unrelated to the infection. Muscle strain in the neck can be caused by overuse of the muscles, and can cause a whole host of symptoms, dizziness and headaches being 2 of the major ones. Treatment for muscle strain is physical therapy where they work on kneading the knots out of the muscles, these knots put pressure on the blood vessels and this is what is causing the symptoms. I had these symptoms and many many more all from bad muscle strain in the neck. Since it has already been diagnosed as muscle strain, you can be referred to therapy or make an appointment yourself depending on your insurance. Muscle strain is not helped with rest and pain meds., or chiro. treatments, I tried all of these, therapy helped me immensely though.
