Pain under right rib cage

love my kids

For the past week or so I have been having this dull, achy pain just under my right rib cage. It doesn't really hurt as much as it's an uncomfortable feeling - it's hard to explain. However, I had a few pieces of chocolate a few days ago and shortly after I had intense burning pain in the same area - I would describe it as a lightning bolt...it was gone in under a minute but then came and went for about an hour. So I've been very careful with what I've been eating and thankfully that hasn't happened again - but this "ache" is still there - it's constant but does feel better first thing in the mornings. Can anyone tell me what this might be? I'm wondering if it's my gallbladder???

Do the gallstones go away on their own sometimes? What usually happens if they don't? It wil likely be a while until I can get into see my doctor - my daughter has been waiting a month for her appointment.

As a rule gallstones remain in the gallbladder. The gallbladder may have a few stones and then more will develop until the gallbladder is full of stones.

Usually the gallbladder will need to be surgically removed.

Sometimes a gallstone will block the bile duct and cause pain.

I had two large gallstones for years, no problem, and then last year the gallbladder was full of various size stones and sludge making surgery necessary.
