Hi

I need some advice! I just finishsed taking my first ever course of amoxiciln for a suspected sinus infection following a short cold. These have help party - no more mucus and sinus pain but still feeling congested at certain times and during the last few nights ive woke for a sore throat that hurts when i swallow but it was mostly gone away throughout the morning. But today i wake with the same pain in my throat and its got worse all day. Now everytime i swallow im in alot of pain - and its the lower throat - it almost feels like its hurt at the top of the muscle that take your food down (sorry not more technical) ive had a good look in my mouth but can see the bit that hurts!

Anyone know what this could be? x

It may be that you were treated for one thing and actually have another which would require a different med. My sis went to doc and was treated for bronchitis one time, meds barely did a thing, she ended up getting more symptoms also, then got worse, went to an ear nose and throat specialist and was told she didnt have bronchitis but a severe sinus infection and had been on the wrong med. So I if you continue to get worse, i would go back. Sore throat can be sinuses, strep, allergies, just so many things. Good luck and I hope you get some relief

Hi, Gasgurl . . . some people get side effects from Amoxicillin, Cephalexin and similar antibiotics whereby they develop a yeast type infection in their throats called "thrush".

You might want to see if a doctor can tell you if that is what is going on.

Other than that, I agree with Kasey that it could be something else requiring a different antibiotic or dosage to treat.

Lindaru :)
