Hello Rose from another Rose:
First, I am not a medical doctor. Burning in your chest can be from heartburn and acid splashing back on your esophagus. The burning pain in your back and shoulder can also be referred pain. That is, pain that originates in one area but is felt in another due to nerve pathways and nerve impulses traveling. These types of pain can also be from many other causes such as (not to scare you and not likely), your heart, a pinched nerve, etc., etc.
Best thing is to check with your medical doctor first and come back to the forum once you have a confirmed diagnosis of GERD. Otherwise, we may be inadvertently pointing you in the wrong direction or delaying you from getting proper medical diagnosis and help.
It always worries me a little bit when posters post symptoms that are new to them and have not been checked out by a doctor. Best to be an informed consumer and be armed with as much knowledge as you can.
I hope you feel better very soon and find relief from your symptoms.
Rose
