Pain on left side below breast- What could be causing this?

For about four days now, I have been having stabbing, shooting pain below my breast. It lasts about a few seconds to several minutes. The pain also goes to my back. It hurts so bad that I am not able to take deep breaths. Could this be my spleen causing me trouble? Should I go see a doctor right away?

Your spleen is on the right side--does this pain begin to hurt after you eat? Try taking an antacid before you eat or right after )pecid ac or maalox. If the antacid helps with your discomfort, than you possibly could be having some acid reflux. You also could be having some problems with your gall bladder. All gallbladder pain does not necessarily have to be on the right side. The best way to diagnose a gallbladder issue is to get an abdominal ultasound. The best way to diagnose acid reflux is to get a upper gi barium study.

I hope this helps answer some of your questions

The spleen is not on the right side. The spleen is found in the upper left quadrant of the abdomen. Your gallbladder is located on the right side under the liver.

I don't know if it's the same pain as you're talking about...But, I use to have a very sharp pain under my left breast, that went out under my arm and felt like it was going back into my shoulder blade...I was scared that it was my heart...My Dr. did an EKG and nothing was wrong with it...But he went to pushing on my diaphragm and stomach and I had "stomach ulcers" and acid reflux. I have to take Zantac every morning now...And I haven't had the pain since about a wk after taking one everyday...
I would call my Dr. and ask him about it... If when you lay down at night or after eating any acid foods, tomotoes, oranges, etc.. and you get severe heartburn and have a VERY bad discomforting feeling in your stomach it could be ulcers...My was from stress...So, I have something for that also....
Good Luck
