Hey spineys!
Want to take a poll? What oral pain meRAB did you come home from the hospital on after fusion? What was the frequency of your use? How long did you take after surgery? My husband is on hydrocordone 10 mg every 4-6 hours as needed. He pretty much neeRAB them every 4 to 6 hours. What are your experiences with pain meRAB after surgery (ie how long did you take them?) We want to get a feel for how he is handling his pain management.
Thanks in Advance,
Ginger

I had a one level fusion in Jan. at L4-5 and took 20 mg oxycodone every 12 hours, and hydroco/apap 5-500 every six-8 hours. I took these meRAB around the clock, following the very good advice of some of the veterans of this board. I stopped the oxycodone first, probably about 9 weeks, and I stayed on the hydroco until 11 weeks when I pretty much stopped all pain meRAB, except lyrica, which I forgot to mention earlier. I took it too from the very beginning.

My 87-year old MIL had the very same surgery a month after me. She was on pain meRAB exactly one day, couldn't stand the way they made her feel and asked the surgeon for something else...so she has taken nothing but tylenol since the surgery. Can't imagine how she did this...but I guess she's a lot tougher than I am!!

Had L5/S1 Fusion (anterior & posterio) first procedure 1/29/08 and final on 3/5/08. When I came home after the first procedure I was put on Lortab 10 4 times daily and Soma 350 4 times daily. When I came home after the last surgery they had me on Oxycodon/Apap 10mg/325 every 4 hours and Soma 350 was every 4 hours and I took these around the clock. When I went back for my 3 week checkup they reduced the Oxycodone/Apap 10mg/325 to once every 6-8 hours (which I take 4 per day) and the Soma is 4 per day, also. I did try and take Neurontin after the first surgery but I had a terrible reaction so I am not taking any nerve medication. The Oxycodone has not kept my pain under control but I will talk to the surgeon when I see him at the end of this month.
