Two weeks after back surgery L5 S1 i am expericening pain in my right calf when i am walking. i began walking 4 days after surgery approx. 1 .5 miles not at a pace but just to get some exercise. Since then i get this tightening pain in my calf if i try to push it it radiates up to my right hamstring. My concern is do you think i am hurting the prloblem by trying to walk more each week. thanks kevin

Your L5S1 has nerves that go down to your calf. I have had nerve damage from my herniations that has created a permanent tightness in my calf. I would walk less or in small intervals instead of all at once. You may be aggrevating the nerve because the area is still tender after your surgery. You need to give it time to heal, walking is good but maybe try it in shorter distances with rest inbetween.
