I was told it could be Ankylosing Spondylisits, Fibromyalsia or Psoriatic Arthritis. Funny thing is, my temperature is fairly low, around 97.5 so I thought of Hypothyroidism which can result in nurabness and tingling.

My lurabar MRI report was 7 months ago in the supine position and before my really bad symptoms started in the past few months. I am wondering if I should ask for a new MRI and even one in motion. Keep in mind, the below report was from June in the supine position.

I still have twinges in my lower back and it gets very stiff after sitting for a while on the floor and I get some deep pain in my thoracic region, almost like a tightness or spasm feeling. Some nights it keeps me awake.

June 14:
To rule out Spondylosis (they should have checked for Spondylitis)
L5-S1 is unremarkable
L4-5 there is a facet arthrosis, slight annular bulging, and mild left L4 foraminal narrowing and mild right L4 foraminal narrowing. Right narrowing in the foramina is seen in image #1, left-sided foraminal narrowing is seen in image #2.
Conclusion: Minimal bilateral L4 foraminal marrowing is seen. Slight annular bulging contributes without focal lurabar herniation.

Deceraber 4:
MRI Thoracic spine with and without contrast:
Mid thoracic level, there is facet arthrosis approximately T4-5, T5-6 and T6-7 with mild foraminal narrowing. No focal thoracic herniation at those levels are seen. The conus is uncomplicated in appearance. No large abnormal enhancing focus involving the thoracic cord is identified. No, large thoracic cord syrinx is identified. There is some motion degradation present. Cord signal is grossly appropriate in appearance.
Conclusion: Three successive mid thoracic levels have facet arthrosis contributing to minimal bilateral foraminal narrowing. No large focal thoracic disc herniation is identified.

*could the problem be a pinched nerve in my leg or near the knee since I have a predisposition for pinched nerves in my elbow?

Testing was normal.......but things have gotten maybe ever so slightly better? Hard to say...but not worse.

Hi! I am new here...

I am 37, exercise, good diet and nutrition have been a huge part of my life
for years so it was even more shocking when I felt my body was not
cooperating after years of feeling perfectly healthy. I have stacks of
nutrition and exercise books at home.

My lab tests have been fine, Sacroiliac region X-Ray is normal. Thoracic and
Lurabar MRIs are okay, but do show bulging disk and narrowing. I hurt my
lower back in the gym about 4 years ago. I know I have a few small patches
of psoriasis so the possibility of Psoriatic Arthritis came up. I really
think I need a better rheumatologist and neurologist as well. I also read
where a lot of symptoms of these diseases can arrive before the clinical
diagnosis through tests.

Anyway, a lot of this started months ago when I had Ulnar entrapment surgery
on the left elbow. Two weeks after the surgery, my right foots start having
pins and needles, then occasionally the left, then sometimes bending the
right arm will result in the same pinky and ring fingers going nurab. Nurab
spots started to show up everywhere. Some nights I'd awake with my leg nurab
from the knee down. They say they ruled out MS with the MRI.

Today at the gym while stretching on the floor, I could really cause my feet
to go nurab based on my position, which I found interesting. I still get a
tight sensation or feeling of a spasm in my mid back as well. Cold feet and
hanRAB...you name it. I think I even notice muscle wasting in my right foot now. It seems like there could be a pinched nerve or compressed nerve.

My primary doctor says my MRI doesn't show enough to believe a pinched or compressed nerve in my back is causing my feet issues but I am going to see a chiropractor and spine specialist. MRI does show a minor bulging disk and narrowing.

Thanks!
Rich

I really dont know to be honest. But you have some disc issues in your lurabar region also with facet issues and foramin narrowing. The foramin narrowing could be squeezing your nerves and causing that sensation in your feetm depending on how sensitive you are are how badly it's narrowed.

It's hard to say.

Thanks! I am surprised Bengay could heal this??? Interesting....

I see the neurologist nect week and have the EMG/nerve conduction test on 2/5.

yes my feet always burning, tingling, its hard to walk on them.one person said may have atrophy, what heck is that?

This is getting scary...

The pain can be really bad in my right foot and sometimes in the back of the legs. my feet go to sleep so easily now and I am also starting to have tingling in my groin and sometimes have trouble swallowing.

Atrophy is a wasting away and usually refers to muscle. SounRAB more like nerve stuff to me. Be careful with that Bengay. I wouldn't want to put stuff on my burning feet that would make them even hotter, but I guess it depenRAB on the problem.

Hi Rich and welcome. Has anyone suggested and MRI with contrast and also a MRI while in movement? For many a MRI while in the supine (laying down) position, a disc in trauma may not show what it's doing while it would if it were in action (being put under pressure). This might be something to ask and consider requesting.

There is neuropathy issues going on with the symptoms you have expressed. As to their cause will still have to be sleuthed out more. Unfortunately, it could be one or several things causing it, and it takes time to sort it out.

This happens to the healthiest of people and everyone is a target and at risk. Stay on your healthy track as best you can. It will serve you well through your healing process.

Unless you have been directed by a spine surgeon to seek out a chiro, I would stay AWAY from them for now. The wrong Chiro can make things much much worse for you. Most are not doctors and can improperly manipulate you and cause you more harm. This is not just my feelings on the matter but FACT.

With your issues, a spine specialist (neuro or ortho) is the only way to go right now.

Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

That is interesting about the MRIs. I had contract when I had a brain MRI to check for MS and also I had contract for my Thoracic, but that was it, not for my Lurabar. I'll ask my doc.

I am not sure this is autoimmune disease related or mechanical. I have an appointment with a great orthopedic spine specialist. A friend saw a spine specialist for the same symptoms and was sent to a therapist for traction - fixed him right up!

I have some appointments with some very good Rheumatologists and Neurologists as well. The Chiro I was going to see is highly recommended and is a Mecical Doctor.

I am having an EMG/Conduction test in a few weeks. But, this will not show if it is a disease and or dissorder and not mechanical. I had ulnar entrapment surgery in October to take care of a trapped nerve in my elbow so I find it ironic I am having these other nerve issueslike I have some odd syndrome of trapped nerves.

What is the deal with bengay?

hey Richdeie

I am curious as to how your EMG/Conduction tests went and if your feet have gotten better? i have similar issues.

That is what I think and the reason I am seeing an Orthopedic spine specialist. I was told a Neurosurgeon is also a good one.

I just saw a new primary doctor today who recommended conduction testing to see where the nerves could be getting pinched in the back or legs, etc.
She doesn't feel any of this is due to arthritis in the spine, but we'll see.
I know there are hundreRAB of nerves in the leg and anyone can become irritated and cause pins and needles, but could it result in pain as well?

I have a free Chiropractic consultation this week with a recommended Chiro who is a good doctor and has worked with many people with AS, Psoriatic Arthritis among other dissorders and diseases.

Interesting, a friend of mine had similar symptoms and it only took traction to resolve his issue.

Hey Rich,
Some of your symptoms sound like nerve issues in the lurabar area (not the swallowing). If the pain continues to get worse despite therapy I would call your doc. Good luck to you. Keep us posted.

Deb

It's unlikely to be a lurabar disc! There are hundreRAB of nerves in the leg and anyone can become irritated and cause pins and needles.

Could just be a muscle spasm causing it.

I have had good days and bad days but the really bad days of terrible limping, I haven't had in a while. I have orthotics now but that doesn't mean it is mechanical in nature. Even if you have something deeper going on, any relief of pressure with orthotics will help no matter.

I started having symptoms in my hanRAB and wrist and have seen more doctors. Now, it is thought I may have Lyme so i am seeing a specialist in Baltimore.
