Hello,
I am 31 years old and I am going to give you my Story, Symptoms,Medical Advice, Drugs that I have received and what types Doctors I have seen for ear, teeth, headache and some facial pain.
I have had headaches since I was in grade school. Over the years my headaches have gotten progressively worse and have turned into migraines and cluster headaches. For the last 9 years I get pain in my right ear that feels like someone in piercing my eardrum with something really sharp like an icepick. I believe that that might be an "Icepick Headache" which I have read about and there is not really much they can do as I understand. The pain is sharp and sudden. There are also things that can trigger the pain such as a cool breeze that enters my ear canal and or just the cold in general. Also, if I get water into my ear it will set it off. I also get really bad. I also get pain in my upper right side molars that feel like a bad toothache. It feels like someone is sticking nails into my gums. I also get pain in my cheekbones that feel like sharp pains.
So when It started first with headaches and then came the ear pain which I would have daily and I would just take Excedrin to make it go away. I had gone to my GP and she looked into my ear and said she saw no swelling or redness or wax build up. So my ear showed no symptoms that anything was wrong. So I just lived with it. Then one day my teeth started to hurt and I thought that that must be what it was! So I go to the Dentist and tell her what hurt and where... a few x-rays and a little poking and prodding found nothing. I thought "This can't be right!! Something hurts!", But I go home and figure I'll just have to live with it. So I live with it for a while longer and my teeth really start hurting even more, so I go back to the Dentist figuring that she had missed something. She took X-Rays again and found nothing. So she says it might be "Trigeminal Neuralgia" or "TMJ". She kind of explained what those were and I went on my way. There was really nothing I could do because I didn't have medical insurance. So before I go rushing off to the Neurologist and get a MRI that I really cant afford, I thought I'd go the less serious route and check out an Ear, Nose and Throat Doctor. He looked into my ear and found nothing in my ear or sinuses that would indicate anything in there that would be giving me pain. He recommends the Neurologist as well. Okay then, off to the Neurologist. I get an MRI and everything seems comes up normal. And i thought okay.. well that's good news and bad news. I'm getting Crazy Headaches and Ear Pain and nothings wrong in my MRI. So i talk to the Neurologist and he thinks that my ear pain is a type of Migraine. They give me Topamax (and anti-migraine med) and it doesn't help.
So they started giving me pain pills. I've had everything from regular Vicodin to really powerful shots of Demerol. I am now hooked on Percocet which I have been taking about 8- 10/325 for about 2 years now. I am worried about my acetaminophen intake. I know you can take up to 4000mg a day and I have had blood tests that say my liver and kidneys are okay, but I still worry. I don't drink, but my eating habits are very poor. I got used to not eating because It would hurt to chew and being on pain pills so long killed my appetite. I have always had irritable bowel and at first the opiate pain medicine was great because it would make me regular, but now I am constipated and have terrible gas at night and in the morning.
Here is what I have noticed from the Opiate Pain Medicine in my body,
It gives me bloated feeling and painful gas
I have trouble urinating ( Getting started and stopping mid stream)
The Doctor found my prostate to be a little swollen ( I am only 31 years old)
When I urinate, sometimes semen comes out
I have a constant pain on my left side under my rib cage. Like a fullness feeling or there's something there. Sometimes I get a feeling like i'm being sliced under the ribcage by something sharp.
I do not have medical insurance and cannot afford to go see a G.I doctor or have an Ultrasound.
I am hoping that I can taper off the pain medicine, but It's so hard because I mentally still feel like I need them. My disability runs out at the end of July and I don't know what I am going to do.
Okay now here is the "GOOD NEWS"
For some reason the pain recently in my ears and face has not been as severe. I still get pain, but it hasn't been dropping me to the floor like it previously had. I want to get off the pain pills but I need help, but I feel I can't do it alone. I currently went off of Percocet and am now on OXY IR 10mg which is Oxycodone without Acetominophen.
If anyone has heard anything similar to this or can tell me where I might be able to get help... please, please, please let me know.
