Pain in butt after surgery

I also have the same pain. I had surgery last Feb and have had many flare ups but the buttock pain stays pretty constant. Now I do have to have another surgery in that area so not sure if my pain is normal or because the first surgery did not work.

Walking is great and will help you. Good luck
 
It's quite possible that the pain is from them using retractors and other equipment during the surgery. People are often have very sore muscles after lurabar surgery. If it doesn't get better in a week or so, you might call your dr's office.

Hi All, I just had the facet fusion for L5- S1 , I had surgery 10 days ago. My right side of my butt is in a lot of pain. It feels like someone kicked me or beat me in the butt. It even hurts to touch the skin there. I have not had my follow up with the doctor yet and its not enough pain to go to hospital. Has anyone had this? Is this a sciatic thing? Is it due to the damage they did during surgery such as cutting muscle or nerves? The left side of my butt does not hurt.
It feels like I need to do some stretching, but Im not allowed, and I am afraid to do anything wrong.
Thanks for any advice you can give!

I have to agree, my left buttock is sore and getting worse all the time. It was sore before the surgery / and it is not getting better as of late. At 6 months I told the doc this and he has reffered me to the general surgeon. I had an S1 -L4-L5 opeing in the front as well as in the back... 6 screws 2 roRAB and 2 cages.


It makes me think that things are not as they should be at times...

But when I go back and see the family doctor it is the same things are okay...

I am waiting to see the genreal surgeon...

You do need to get up and walk about OFTEN. Little walks around your home space, but walk. I noticed that I couldn't stay in one spot more than a few hours (bed mostly) and others not too long at all, maybe 15-20 minutes, then I "had" to move.

I take it this pain was not present before surgery?

It may just be spasms. What meRAB are you on? You aren't lifting anything or anyone are you?
 
Hi Jen,

From the description of your discomfort I am wondering if it could be a tight piriformis muscle. I've done some research in this area lately as it appears that my sciatica pain may be coming from this muscle rather than the lurabar herniation that I have.

I'm currently having PT that is addressing piriformis syndrome and it seems to be helping. If your dr. has scheduled PT you could ask to be evaluated for this. Sometimes pain from this muscle gets overlooked. Deb
 
I have left buttoch pain, pretty severe at times, and they tell me it is the sciatic nerve. After about 2 months of butt pain, I started to get a tingling in my foot, like it was asleep. 2 months after that my butt, leg, and foot tingle, feels like my foot is asleep, and continues to get worse. I am still working but this throbbing in my butt is progressing where it hard to move around.
 
Sorry for your pain, but unfortunatelly you will experience it for a while; takes time to get better in that area. I am 18 month after 2 levels and still hurts even to seat.
I hope you will start feelling better soon!
 
I had the same experience, after research I found that the pain is due to edema in soft tissu, so the important thing to observe is your Bed structure, your lying position on bed, your sitting in wash room , these should be managed in a way through which you feel comfert positiom, never try to move in odd way , the thing which is important is that this pain will be reduced to eliminate with the pessage of time, but your worry may prolong it. so take care about yourself avoid extra moving, in my experiance I got it as I remained in continuous walk which had increased the pain, however when I stopped walking I found recovery repidly,
 
Did they use a bone graft from your hip? If so, that could very well be the source of your pain. Some say the pain from the bone graft site is worse than the back pain from the surgery. It may feel like it's in your butt, but the area they take the graft from is pretty low.
