Pain in back of head

I have had a pain in the back of my head at the base on my skull for the past week. I can actually press on it and it hurts. I have a disk problem in my neck. Do you think this could be causing the problem?
 
I am a licensed massage therapist. According to my Trigger Point Self Care book, you have a trigger point in your semispinalis cervicis. Your neck is referring pain to the base of your head. Just massage around the posterior neck and you should be fine. Treat your self to a massage!
 
Yes, I had this problem after getting whiplash in a car accident, I was unable to even move my head because my neck was in such spasm, but I also had a very tender slightly swollen area in the back base of my head. Physical therapy helped immensely with this.
