I have been dealing with back pain for almost 20 years. It has gotten worse since I broke my tail bone in 1999. i have been on narcartics that really don't seem to help. With all the abusers it is hard to get a doc to REALLY help. I have a surgery consult in January. My problem is this I don't know if I can live like this any longer. The pain has become so unbearable.

i guess that i just need some kind of help. I worry about getting off the drugs. I worry about the potential surgery. I have 6 cervical herinated veratbrae of which 3 could cause paralisis and is effecting my ability to type. i have degenarative disk disk disease, stenosis and I feel help less. helpHELPHELP>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

somebody here should answer. I do not know what to say about back surgery.
all I know is nobody can promise you the surgery will be a success. you take a risk.

what about your neck. that worries me. with neck surgery you also take a risk.

the pain we have is called nerve pain. that's why we suffer so much. try this topamax and see if that helps the pain any.

As nochange said, there is no guarantee with any type of surgery. It's a crap shoot. I went in to have three lower discs replaced and ended up with a broken back. If I would have know that was going to be the outcome of getting out of bed the day after surgery, I would have stayed in bed! You just don't know what will happed. What's the saying? "Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday." Tis a true throught.

It sounRAB like you could use some professional help. YOu sould like you are, in addition to being in pain, depressed. That is a common side effect of people who live with pain 24/7. One you have the surgical consult, you will have a clearer picture of what neeRAB to be done. then you will feel better because you have a clearer path ahead of you. It's hard to sit and not know where you are going.

There are serveral meRAB that work on nrve pain you could try. Neurontin, Topomax and Lyrica are three. Any one of those might work.

Hang in there!

I agree that you should get some help. I too am suffering from depression due to chronic pain.. It really gets to ya. I've had two back surgeries and am waiting for approval from wc to have my third. I can't do the things I like to do anymore and it's hard to talk about it all the time to the people in your life.. I feel like they get tired of hearing about it over and over. So, I joined this board and made an appointment with a counselor. Good luck with everything.
