Pain after Microdiscectomy

It all depenRAB on many factors...one of most important factor is duration of your symptoms... If you suffered for several months (or even years?) your nerve neeRAB time to recover. If it was compressed for long period of time, now normal blood flow is gained, and this nerve neeRAB time to adapt to it.

Sometimes doctor say: nerve recovery time is equivalent to nerve compression time.

For what it's worth i also started taking my neurontin yesterday after a long break without taking it and it seemed to help although i really think you need to build up a healthy amount in your blooRABtream before you truly get the benefits from it. Today I actually woke up worse than I have since surgery, feeling like I used to in the mornings before i had the surgery, feeling 40 years older than I am in other worRAB.
 
Hi, I'm one year post op. The foot, leg and hip pains come and go. This is only my opinion, but I attribute the pain to the nerves healing and regenerating after the trauma we put them through. I take one neurontin pill a day to keep these "phantom" pains in check. It would appear that the nerves heal very slowly and at their own pace. Continue to be patient, move forward with your rehab and keep us posted on the website. Until I found this website, it had been a long lonely battle with my recovery. Now I'm glad to have a sounding board to refer to for support. Best wishes to you. AZREB
 
It takes time to heal. It will get better! I am almost a year post opt (in January) and doing great. I do get sore from time to time. But considering the pain and associated problems before surgery, it is well worth the wait. Hang in there, the surgery is just the start. It is more of a marathon than a sprint to get back to normal. Be patient and take care of yourself.
 
I've also heard that nerves can take a very long time to heal and be patient. It's just hard to be patient when you're continuing to experience pain. My problem is I'm not sure if the post-op pain is a result of the nerves healing, scar tissue, reherniation, or disc fragment. I'm 10 weeks post-op now and my foot has been bothering me the last couple of weeks. Doc doesn't seem concerned unless it's continuous pain (I didn't ask what continuous was in his world). I'll give it a bit longer before asking for an MRI.
 
Jim, sorry about the hip! I will be hoping for you that what you fear is not true. What you said about being on pain meRAB for a long time is absolutelt correct. It messes with so many systems in your body. I am thinking that if it starts to become a bad situation with my physician, I may ask to be transferred back to my pain doctr, who I know and trust, and have him gradually get me off all of the drugs when the time comes.

Any improvement in your pain level? I am about the same or a little worse. My surgeon seems unconcerned. He just says treat it conservatively with mortin and vicodin and if you dont get better we'll do another MRI.

My pain is worse today but that is partly my fault as, out of necessity, I did a little too much. So now I am planted with my feet up for the rest of the day! I have an appt. with my surgeon next week so we will see what he has to say. I know that I need to be patient-I am only two weeks post-op today. I think the main thing people want to be reassured of is that all of the post op pain is normal, ya know? I will let you know what my doc says. Hope you get to feeling better a little each day! Thanks for checking in. It really is so nice to have other people to chat with about it who understand.
 
maybe i am a little late to your conversation... but i figured i'd jump in sinice I just had my l4/5 microdisectomy 5 days ago. My injury date was 3 months ago. Im still pretty sore but a lot less worried about the dull pain in my calf muscle after reading that I am not along. Wishing we all fully recover...
