My Packard Bell iMedia (with a XFX GeForce 8600GT 512mb Graphics card upgrade) has functioned perfectly for almost two years.
I recently felt it was time to restore it back to factory settings, for the new year. The harddrive was full and it was being a bit sluggish, probably because of that very reason. So I went through the process of the 'Packard Bell Recovery' right until the end. Here is where I messed up, I pressed cancel instead of finish once it was completed.
So at this point the computer restarts, then wont turn on again. I boot up the machine but nothing happens. After leaving it for 5 minutes I come back and it finally boots up, telling me that windows is corrupt and basically screwed to hell. So I restart the machine and re do the Packard Bell recoverry, this time ticking the right boxes. Everything works fine from this point.
I boot the machine again, install a few programs I need, then looked into Service Pack 1 for Vista - It downloads, then starts to install, after the process appeared to be complete, the machine needed to restart again, so it did. It had a LOAD of updates to do, so it did them, then started back up. Upon loading up again it said Service Pack 1 didn't install properly or something like that. So I gave up on SP1 and simply left it - I went on to install my virus protection instead. The machine seemed kind of slow at this point in time.
I shut down, come back few minutes later, power up the machine to find instead of a blue light on the tower, a red light came on. The fan started like it would normally, it sounded like the computer was turning on, but after 2-3 seconds it died, nothing came on the monitor at any time.
This is now how the computer is stuck... It just displays a red light on the tower, starts up for 3 seconds then dies again. I cant boot AT ALL.
What can I do? Its a decent PC, i don't wanna have to 'bite the bullet' yt, its only just over 18 months old.
Yes, the warranty ended a while back, so i can't send it back.
I know a fair bit about computers so anything technical I'll understand.
Sorry if I seem less than computer literate, Its been a long day and I'm rather tired.
Thanks in advance.
