What are the rules for claiming a dependent? My son is a little over 2 months old, born in November of 2008, and we were trying to figure out if we can claim him. My MIL claimed our nephew the previous year and he was born in October, and they let him. The rules state that the child has to live with you for at least 6 months out of the year but says nothing about age, just about child custody and who has the child more. Since he has lived with us all this time, it doesn't make any sense. How would it work? I mean it worked for her, so what do we do? We do ours online for free, that's why I ask, I don't want to pay someone to do something we can already do ourselves. Thanks!
