Hi,

I have a question about side effects of oxycodone. I take between 1 and a half to 2 pills a day of oxycodone for back pain. Since i have started taking the pills i have gotten bad diarhea useally the next day....I was wondering if anybody on here has gotten the same thing....or if it is coming from something else. I have been on the pills for at least a year or more. I am looking to getting off them because they are running my life and making me seriously depressed and i have no fun anymore. Does anybody have a pattern to taper off 1 to 2 pills a day?
Thanks

Tapering doesn't matter the dose you're on, just start slowly decreasing the dose, even if you have to crush pills and guesstamate the mg dose. Most people suggest dropping about 10-20% per week or 10 days. Diarrhea is a common side effect of withdrawals in Oxy. Set a plan and a schedule and follow it until your finally decide to stop your last dose. What dosage pills are you taking or how many milligrams (mg) per day of Oxy? You should be able to get off pretty quick, but everyone's body handles it different.

So if you are doing 2 - 5/325 Percs a day, that is 10 mg/day of Oxycodone. Next week try (10 x 0.9 = 9 mg/day) and see how you body handles that for a week. Then drop to (9 x 0.9 = 8.1 mg/day, then down to 7.3, ...). If you want to drop 20% at a time, multiply by 0.8 times your current dosage. Stay on each dose for a week or so before dropping again or you'll start getting withdrawals, but you'll probably get some withdrawals during the process along the way. If you can handle them, work through them, otherwise stay on that dose a little longer, or bump it up a little until the withdrawals go away and start dosing down from that point after a few days.

Good Luck to you and yes, you will notice a big difference in your life a few months after you get off. Stay busy during withdrawals to keep your mind off of thinking about them. Good Luck!
