Own a couple smartphones - should i try the n8?

If you can afford it, do it. I love my N8. Good call and reception quality, good GPS, good camera, good FM transmitter, good HDMI out.
 
I'm still in the "trying to justify it" stage lol. I know I'll run with it for a couple days and have to go back to my android device. From what I have read about the email, browser and soft keyboard on the N8 I don't think it could be my daily driver. I'd like to to pick one up just to play with..we'll see..the E7 keyboard looks wonderful.
 
I was totally onboard with the E7, but after looking at multiple hands-on reviews i'm on the fence again. Non-expandable memory, rubbery qwerty, no D-pad for multidirectional scrolling? These are trade-offs that don't make sense to me. HDMI output,"standard" usb port, and bluetooth v3 profile are very nice selling points though. E9 maybe?
 
I've heard comments that the qwerty is actually good. Hmm.. guess have to wait and see to hear more about that. Non-expandable memory.. I personally don't use it anymore, 32GB is more than enough. Plus USB on-the-go will help if I really would need to transfer stuff etc. D-Pad: this is another highly personal thing.. with touch screen I am not missing it on the N900 and use arrow keys when needed.

As for E9 - you may need to wait a long time for that. :)

I am personally waiting most for the N9. It most likely won't have HDMI though, or expandable memory either. And may lack the camera key as well - but will have a much better camera of course.

So trade off, trade offs all around. :)
 
I was a happy android user and have been itching to try the n8 so ended up getting one. I liked it and used it for exactly 2 months then sold it. I think I'll stick with android devices from now on. Can't really explain what it is exactly that makes me not like the n8 because I really like the phone a lot but in the end, I just wish it was running android lol
 
I just got my N8 Last night. Each and Every Feature i find in it is really amazing except the touchscreen which fails. I've to tap it hard sometimes. I also exchanged it in store and its still the same. Lets wait and see how N9 performs...
 
That's because nobody does "Style" better than Apple. (iPhone, iPad, iTouch, iPod, Mac - heck even the sleek Mac colors look of the late 90's)


Quite frankly making sexy products works for Apple because the average Joe will buy the product because it looks "kewl".


Apple makes art (and Steve Jobs has always said that he's an artist first before anything else). But the paint on the iPhone is starting to fade. People are getting tired of the iPhone "look" just like people got tired of the RAZR. Quite frankly it's perfect timing for Nokia to introduce Meego this year...
 
2011 will not be as critical of a year for Apple as it is for Nokia, but 2011 is going to be a "crossroads" type of year for Apple and it's cult faithful. Some are still bitter about "antenna-gate" and others are getting tired of the interface. Many rumors pin the next iPhone to be very similar to iPhone4 but with a better antenna. Will the iPhone suffer the same fate as the RAZR, or can the cult keep it going?...
 
I know thats what will happen to me to lol..I will always go back to android. I use gmail, voice, and maps to much and android is so good at it and I really like the browser to. I'll very likely get a E7 so that I can satisfy my "urge" that I get once a month to use a Nokia. Nokia hasn't lost me yet but they better be doing some major improvements in 2011...
 
That is true but it was ultimately a dead end that almost took Moto down. iPhones have been around now for a similar expand of time and it will be more and more challenging to for Apple to keep the amazing run going. To me, the most likely scenario seems to be that they will keep it going good and strong along the lines of what they are doing with their laptops. But the absolutely amazing sprint run they've had may slow down a bit to say a 800m race speed. :) Obviously, Apple will be helped in all this buy their whole iOS family of products now - they are not reliant on the iPhone alone anymore. So yeah, its not quite the same as the Razr story in that sense either.
 
Well, though I have a N8 and love it in every other way (and then some!), I find that this is the one thing that Nokia (again!) screwed up royally. You almost need a BlackBerry (or even iPhone/iPod) in addition to the N8 for business use. Basically:
  • There is no way to accept/reject meeting invites in Mail for Exchange
  • Once in your calendar, you don't see a list of invitees (incl. the sender/inviter).

As a matter of fact, I have both an iPad and and iPod, and often find myself resorting to these while at work as opposed to the N8, for these two reasons.

That said, the N8 excels over the iPhone (at least, until you jailbreak) in quite a few ways:
  • OVI Maps. No equal, and free. Preload maps onto your phone (in vector data format - very space efficient), and you can search/navigate offline, like a real GPS. Very useful when going to places with limited coverage.
  • Internet connection tethering (e.g. for your laptop or iPad) via Wi-Fi (JoikuSpot) or Bluetooth DUN. I much prefer this over an iPad 3G -- you pay $15/month for unlimited data for the N8, vs. $25 for the iPad 3G alone, not to mention $30/month for the iPhone.
  • HDMI out. View movies in HD on your TV. Nuff said.
  • Excellent camera; Xenon flash.. Camera zoom in video mode is excellent. In the widest angle (default) it downconverts the native 12MP CCD to 720p (so 3000 vertical pixels become 720) - but as you zoom in the frame will eventually reach the native resolution - 720 vertical pixels in the center of the CCD. In other words, no pixelation.
  • Bluetooth keyboard/mouse support built in. Combined with the HDMI output and QuickOffice/QuickPDF, PuTTY, etc - there's your portable computer. :)
  • Expandable/replacable storage. Browsable filesystem; Use your Mac to to navigate it or send/receive files via Bluetooth Exchange or Nokia Multimedia Transfer (USB).
  • Real multitasking, no "save/load context" and "backgrounding service" gimmicks.
  • Some types of applications that you cannot get on the iPhone thanks to Apple restrictions, incl. Swype and Salling Clicker. Nuff said. :)
 
Somebody needs to step away from the internet for a little while. You're sounding unhinged dude; we ARE just still talking about consumer electronics gadgets, not life and death.
 
The RAZR came out in 4th QTR of 2004 and the V9x (really the last "official" RAZR) came out in 4th QTR 2008.


The iPhone launched June 29, 2007 and will have an iPhone 5 coming out in summer of 2011.




So I ask the question again, "Will the iPhone suffer the same fate as the RAZR"?...
