Ovi Suite update?

Today when I booted up my PC, it said there is an upgrade available to Ovi suite. I've only used PC suite. So what's the consensus? Allow it and use Ovi or stick with PC for now?

I've tried both and prefer the PC Suite. Eventually I think Nokia will force us to use OVI Suite, but I'm staying with PC Suite till then. Simple, easy to use, vs bloated and slow.
Also on Ovi Suite 2.0, backups automatically include the memory card unless you remove it, no more choice there.

Ovi Suite 2.0 started the memory card backup by default. Ovi Suite 1.X was fine, allowing me to decide whether or not to backup the memory card on my N85.
I could not find any configuration option on 2.0 to change it back, so I went back to PC Suite.

Yes you do, as far as I know so far about OVI suite, I could not locate any type of option for automatic refresh, except when your device is first connected, or when a text message is sent, and at that, it may not refresh every single message, mising a few here and there.

The messaging built in to OVI Suite has a really nice interface (threaded style) but 2 major problems I see with it is the inability to automatically refresh when a new text message is received, and OVI suite does not mark the messages in the phone as read, the new messages indicator will stay on the home screen of the phone, even if the message has already been read in OVI Suite.

Why on earth does Nokia overlook these important items? OVI is pretty cool in my opinion, but is kind of clunky....maybe with time they'll get these issues ironed out.

The phone I am using on OVI Suite is a N79 NAM.

Kind of reminds me of Nokia Conversations app for the phone, ugh :disappoin, terrible execution! I got free isms and it is way better. (but I'm getting off the topic here)

Yes the manual refresh is extremely annoying. Slows me down big time.

I use conversation and I hear ya. I love it but it destroys my T9 dictionary all the time and crashes alot which is very frustrating.

Hi,

If you look on Nokia OVI Suite 2.0.1.35, say if you connect N95, Goto Messages section of NOkia OVI Suite. In Messages in Nokia N95, you can see inbox messages as 0 if you have your messages are already read by you. If you 200 messages read already and if any new message, comes(which u have not read so far), then you can see the Inbox message as 1. Even though, you have 200 messages on your phone, it Inbox message will show the number of unread messages on your phone. By this way you can see unread messages on NOkia OVI Suite.

well i couldnt resist the temptation to try the newest version of OVI suite. I must say i like the new setup, but the bluetooth sync is laggy and buggy. The usb connection is smooth and fast. I even received a text when it was connected via usb and it was shown and updated like the old pc suite did.

p.s. it updates new text via bluetooth as well. :clapping:

Via symbian-freak the final version ovi suite is out version 2.1.0.87. its installing now so cant say if there were any noticeable improvements yet.

I use it but I downloaded it from Nokia Beta Labs, much better btw. Is it really out officially, mine is in beta? I would think AAS would have had the news by now if it was official.

I think the N8 won't work with PC suite either. I am using the ovi suite with my N8 and I love it. Checking messages via the computer when the phone is away is awesome and it does mark them as read on the phone.

Well going from 3.0.0.254 to 3.0.0.271 is such an incremental update, it's just not worth covering, and it's still beta.

I've just ran the program again, and it's asking me to update. Cool!
