I recently opened a garden center (zone 8, mild winter) with my friend and business partner. I know what I would do with plants in my own landscape, but we are not sure what the standard industry practice is for inventory not yet sold at the end of Fall. Should we build hoop houses and cover everything? Even things that would otherwise be hardy in containers (roses, evergreen shrubs, etc)? Even if something will live in a nursery container, we are concerned that by the time spring rolls around, it will not be saleable, at least not immediately, if it set out all winter. We plan on having a big fall sale, but because we are just starting we had to load up for the fall planting season. Just not sure what to overwinter or how it is normally done. Thanks!
