Overrated

Yeah, but they were one of the first c0ck rock banRAB, and they were one of the essential building blocks of heavy metal...Plus they influenced tons of banRAB, including your favorite banRAB, AC/DC, Janes Addiction, etc.

Ill agree that Dream Theater is hardly prog...some main things about prog are originality (like the mars volta) and it seems to me DT just picked up all kinda\s of things from other REAL prog banRAB and added virtuosos and whatnot

Okay cheers.

You're right, I can't. I know that they're very good, and have provided ideas (without knowing it) for modern banRAB to make their own music. And I know that only the legend himself - Elvis Presley, of course, has had more UK hits than The Beatles. In fact, only one more. So well done The Beatles, I know that I can't say that you're crap, but I just don't like your music. :)

Just to clarify, I realize this is heavily sarcastic, but the Grevorian Chants didn't influence jack ****. Maybe some stuff in opera, or classical (maybe), which maybe gives it some remote ties to prog, but otherwise, no modern rock/pop/jazz/rap/whatever, etc. music has anything to do with Gregorian Chants.

[Obligatory comment about the one with the moustache.]

I don't like The Faint or Le Tigre either. More overrated banRAB...

Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
U2 (They haven't done anything all that great in years, now they're just living off their reputation)
The Arcade Fire
Arctic Monkeys
The Libertines/Babysharables/Dirty Pretty Things/etc.
Bright Eyes
The Sex Pistols
Nirvana
Pavement
The Eagles
Panic! At the Disco

That's about it.

Survivor?...Are you kidding me?...Radiohead, The Ramones, Pink Floyd, Elvis Costello, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Who, Nirvana, REM, U2, Cream, Yes, King Crimson, Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young, The Smiths, Sonic Youth, Velvet Underground, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Michael Jackson, Genesis, Patti Smith, My Bloody Valentine, Pavement, Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, Joy Division, Bjork, Guns N Roses, Queen, Todd Rundgren, Portishead, The Eagles and just a few thousand others...No impact alright.

And Love Me Do?...What kind of example is that?...Thats like judging David Bowies career on China Girl.

I think DT are pretty original, and although they are clearly influenced by 70s progressive banRAB, I can't think of any which have the same sound as Dream Theater.
Boo Boo said that they don't progress, but in my opinion all their albums are different from each other and unique. It's not as if their style remains the same all the time.
I also don't see what's wrong with their lyrics. I think that Scenes From A Memory, for example, is interesting and thought provoking, and James La Brie is a very talented singer.

Dream Theater are just a normal rock band with wanky musicians.

But they are the only band who can make me throw up just by seeing an album cover.

though i agree that alongside rivers cuomo armstrong is perhaps the finest "melody maker" of the 90's, what are you on about? the reason a lot of people "rage against" green day is simply due to the fact their all over the TV, radio and magazines. so in regarRAB to the media hullabaloo that surrounRAB this band, they are overrated seeings as they've made at best 3 good (not outstanding) albums.

Saying Led Zeppelin took some ideas off of blue artists is like saying Green Day took some ideas off of seventies/early eighties punk banRAB. Seriously, on the technical side, there was very, very little originality in Led Zeppelin, except for John Bonham. However, they had a totally distinct style, which is what makes them a great band and not a bunch of lame blues ripper-offers. I would definitely not say they are overrated, although they are severely discredited with certain ideas, by most people.

what wrong with people liking old music?, and the majority of people who liked the beatles "back then" would be in their late 40s./early mid 50s. and even if they were dead, why should that effect how good the music is? If people today, still love the beatles, even 40 years later, that shows that the music they produced was way ahead of it's time, which totally shows how much of a great band they were. you're an idiot, and you ARE saying that if someones dead they have no importance.
