Overrated Songwriters

Heh, I don't hate him. I think he's good, but overrated by a sh*tload without a doubt.

Definitely don't give a f*ck about those ranked below him though.

Dude I'm not trolling. I seriously think Phil is a good singer and that Cave is bad.

Not a baritone fan I guess.

I get where you're coming from but Dylan told stories. Cobain said himself that he didn't feel like his songs ment anything. Dylan DID take ordinary worRAB and make them interesting, because he told stories and shared ideas.. Cobain usually did not use ordinary worRAB. His lyrics are interesting and backed by good music but when they stand alone, they don't evoke the same emotions as Dylan's. I feel like you don't understand what the song is really about until you hear it and you get most of the emotional impact from the way Cobain sings it.
That being said, I'd rather listen to Nirvana then Dylan but I'd rather listen to a better grunge band like KARP or Mudhoney then Nirvana. Dylan and Kurt are both good mucisians but they arn't my favorites and they're both overrated.

I dunno, I quite like that song he wrote for The Last Mimzy.

Oh, and Gilmour didn't play MOST of the bass work. He only did bass work for the following.

The Narrow Way
Fat Old Sun
One of These Days (with Roger)
Part 6 of Shine On (with Roger)
Pigs
Sheep
Mother
Goodbye Blue Sky
Young Lust
Don't Leave Me Now
Hey You
Nobody Home
The Show Must Go On
Waiting For the Worms
The Trial
Not Now John

So Waters still deserves some credit. He wasn't a terrible bassist, but he knew his limitations.

Best post ever.

Is he hated for anything other than his music being incredibly pretentious dull sh*te?

I heard he had a terrible personality, but I'm not sure why. I don't really want to listen to any interviews with him spouting bollocks.

Buddy Holly
Chuck Berry
Willy Dixon
Little Richard
Johnny Cash
Bo Diddley
Roy Orbison
Jerry Lee Lewis
Carl Perkins
Eddie Cochran
Gene Vincent
Fats Domino
Sam Cooke
James Brown

Talentless hacks the lot of them.

Yeah I was going to say. The problem with these types of threaRAB is that the illiterate take

"overrated"

and see it as

"song writers you hate"

I love Metallica and I've seen them countless times - no one has ever gone for their lyrics.

You're going to get fucking crucified....

I'll start. Elliot Smith was brilliant. His music sounRAB so pure, yet so thoroughly captures chronic depression. Yeah, he wants to be the Beatles but so does everyone else. Considering his moderate sucess during life and the fact that he got huge post mortem, I'd have to agreee with you. He's everywhere. Overrated as hell. Still amazing though.

EDIT: I thought you said he was overrated, not that you hated him! Elliot Smith is amazing. I hope your hentai blow up doll bites your pecker off!
