Overrated Songwriters

We're after ya

Don't fret about it, US education is pretty bad too.

Melissa had to remind me the other day that India was located in south asia and not the middle east.

I wouldn't go so far as to champion Metallica as good songwriters, but I do think that credit should be given to them for some of their output. I mean really, Taking Dalton Trurabo's novel Johnny Got His Gun and coherently transposing the concept into a metal song at least shows a fair amount of creativity. A lot of Metallica's early material focuses on some pretty relevant and somewhat obscure topics as well.

If anything Lynne is UNDERRATED.

Peart isn't really a songwriter, just a lyricist. It's Lee and Lifeson who write the actual music most of the time.

Barrett is great but he is indeed overrated, I'm so f*cking sick of everyone bitching about how Floyd were only good with Barrett, suck my d*ck you hipster c*nts. Waters and Gilmour pwn Barrett so much as songwriters it's ridiculous that people even bother comparing.

Actually I should have just said Morrissey. The Smiths are excellent (but still overrated IMO) but what solo Morrissey I've heard was pretty terribad. So I'm giving Marr most of the credit for The Smiths' success.

Jeff Lynne is one of the worst things to happen to music after synthesizers and drum machines.

Neil Peart's lyrics is why he is included awful crap most notably "Tom Sawyer"...woof!

My Geography is worse than my Maths, so don't you fret. I don't even know England that well. Geography is by far my worst subject, followed by Maths. F*cking hated maths.

I'm tired of all the metalheaRAB bitching about Metallica.

"Oh noes they changed their sound."

I hate Burton era Metallica fans who bitch about this, I hate Gabriel/Hackett era Genesis fans who bitch about this, I hate DLR era Van Halen fans who bitch about this, I hate Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd fans who bitch about this, I hate Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac fans who bitch about this, I hate Barlow era Dinosaur Jr fans who bitch about this, I hate Slovak era RHCP fans who bitch about this.

Well you get the point.

C'mon they hired Rob Rock to produce The Black Album explicitly so they could put a pop veneer to their sound, significantly, shorten up their songs, and reach as wide and pedestrian demographic as possible.
I'll be the first one to get on the soap box with you when it comes to elitist mother****ers crying "sell out" when a band gets some commercial success, or releases material that is more accessible than what they've built their fan base on. But Metallica...The Black Album...that's a watershed album if their ever was one, and not a good one.

You know, I never really had a strong opinion of Metallica until I heard about the Napster BS. "BAAAAWWW UR STEALING OUR ART BAAAAAW WE NEED MORE MONEYZ BAWWW WE'RE NOT RICH ENUFF"

That pretty much just turned me off of them forever. I still like a few songs, but I definetely haven't gone out of my way to listen to any of their albums. A local radio station played their newest album in it's entirety the day it came out... and it was ****ing terrible. I wanted to shoot myself, though I'm sure plenty of people thought it was amazing.

Surely you prioritise your reasons and try and find the biggest one, and if there isn't a massive one, just use a small one?

Like me, I hate Phil Collins because he made fucking terrible music. - BIG REASON

I hated Sesame Street as a kid, and I still do. Not because of the show itself, but Big Bird really scares me. - small reason. If I could find a bigger one, I'd use it. But I can't, so that'll do.

Surely you can find better and bigger reasons why you hate Phil Collins? There's so many to choose from.
