Overplayed Rock Songs

When most of these songs come on the radio, I listen to them, with the execption of THAT ONE.

Shoud've included that in my post.
 
I'm only 18. :laughing: How old are you? I prefer being this age, I still have 3-5 decades worth of music that I can be there for. I used to think old music>modern music but I've learnt that really isn't the case. The 00s were great for music. As well as a load of new music to come, we still have unlimited access to decades of music. Definitely Maybe and WTSMG were the soundtracks to the best years of my life, one day I'll listen to them and get the biggest amount of nostalgia ever :D my first memory of music was listening to Roll With It whilst waiting in the car for my Dad in town. Oasis are either love or hate. Or in my case used to love then turned a bit indifferent to.

When Oasis get brought up, I sound like a broken record. I have to chuck my 2 cents in. :(
 
To write off all modern music is foolish.

However I do feel that in quantity, there are less artists who have or will probably ever have the same status as the iconic artists of past decades. There will probably never be another guitarist who will reinvent the guitar the way Hendrix did or artists who will create a cultural revolution like Chuck Berry or The Beatles.

Everything just seems inherently generic today but in the 60s and 70s these things were fresh. Many of the biggest genres were just being developed. I do fall into the stereotype that older is better.

Jazz was best in the 50s and 60s, R&B was best in the 60s and 70s, prog was best in the 70s, punk and metal were best in the 70s and 80s, alternative rock was best in the 80s and 90s, electronic music was best in the 90s and folk was sure as hell better in the 60s and 70s than all the derivative indie folk bullcrap we have now.

Almost every popular genre has already met their peak by now. Unless there are new innovative genres on the way things do seem pretty dire and genres will become more and more generic and watered down.
 
Overplayed rock songs of the past: "Jeremy" by Pearl Jam. When I was in high school I felt like there was no escape from this song.
 
Hmmm. That's actually really difficult for me. It's between 'Modern life is Rubbish' and '13'. 'Leisure' was a bit Madchester, MLIR seemed to be a more comfortable album for them. But, then again, 'Parklife', as overplayed as it is does have some enormously fantastic tracks on it too... Sigh. Decision making is not my strong point.

I appreciated the concept of 'Song 2'. Just didn't think it was that great. Though with that whole album they were going in a slightly different direction, which luckily worked (God bless you Graham Coxon).

True story. Blur started it though. Saying both banRAB would cancel a show to avoid fans bottling each other, Oasis cancelled their show but Blur went ahead. Twats.

Well, I just turned 15. Oasis was like early 90's weren't they? THE britpop band? That means you were born in 1992..wait, because by the way you were talking it sounded like you were there for every album that came out. Yeah.

I don't think old music>>new music. I think people set standarRAB way too high for new banRAB these days, with all that pressure of living up to the 'standarRAB' of 'old banRAB' like King Crimson and Hendrix.

Besides, classic rock (in the broader sense) spans from late 50's-early 90's, whereas modern music spans from late 90's-00's. So obviously 'old music' had more time to develop. I admit the music industry is a bit stagnant and lazy right now, but thats because all the talented banRAB are too cowardly to be famous, and hiding away behind the indie label.

GREAT band= Talent + Courage. There were heaps of these kinRAB of banRAB in 2,3 decades ago.
