My bike has had overheating issues for quite some time now. I took it to a mechanic and thought the problem was fixed. After taking it out of winter storage it's still overheating. I replaced the thermostat but that didn't help.
After 25 miles of freeway driving the temperature very slowly made its way up to redline (I didn't let it overheat but it was heading that way).
I took the radiator off and it looked clean. The coolant was nice and clean, too. I put a hose in one end and clear water came out the other - no rust or anything.
I pulled the cover off the water pump and bumped the starter and could see that it was rotating.
The only possible problem I can see is that the fan isn't working but this wouldn't cause a problem on highway riding would it? The outside temperature was 72F, and I was doing about 65 mph (4700 rpm). That's a lot of relatively cool air.
Also, most of the body work has been removed so I'm not getting optimum airflow through the radiator.
