i bought a 1997 mitsubishi galant and i just wanted to know what is over drive buttons for my car.the problem is my over drive doesn't work ,everytime i turn it on the rpm just go up all the way and car jerking but if i turn it off the car runs just fine but i heard from somebody that over drive is on will save gas per mileage, is that true? so please explain it to me and tell me how to fix it.thanks

i am sure im turning it on because my manual said if the overdrive is turn off the light "overdrive off" is will come on and if is on the "overdrive off"light turns off
