we have a rodent problem in our yard. so we are getting a cat/kitten. what do we need to know to have an outdoor cat? tell us what you know about outdoor cats. what supplies etc?and we cant bring it in the house ever because one of my family members is extremly allergic.

***THE MOST IMPORTANT THING**** DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT DECLAW YOUR CAT. If you do you have jsut taken away their most important defense mechanism from predators. Also remember is make sure you take away any rat poisons at least 1 month before you get the cat. If the cat catches a rat/mouse, any poison still left in its system can poison your cat. Also, please be responsible and spay/neuter your cat (cats that are sterilized live longer, happier lives with less illness and are less likey to run away) and get a break-away collar if you live in the woods. Cats that live in the woods and have collar get caught in braches/shrubs and can strangle themselves. Make sure you have a little house/kennel shelter for it outside that has a blanket/water dish. Outdoor cats have a SIGNIFICANTLY lowe lifespan than indoor cats because of illnesses they can get and diseases from rodents. Make sure the cat is up to date with vaccines and vet check ups once a year. Good luck!

If you're never ever letting the cat in the house, don't get a cat.
The poor thing will be lonely and miserable, and could end up being hit by a car, attacked by another animal, or simply become ill. Cats need shelter, and if you can't give them love and a home, then don't get one!
