Out with the old, in with the new...

This weekend, my contract with Cingular expires. I am switching to another provider, no matter what. T-Mobile caught my eye with its Sidekick 2. I like cool phones, but don't want to shell out $500+ on a Treo, I just go to college and home anyway. I do a lot of web browsing and play a lot of video games, like a lot of people do. Does tmobile have a nice lineup of phone selections? How good is the sidekick and how long until the sidekick 3 is released? Many questions, I know...any response would be much appreciated.

The SK2 is a really nice phone if you will use all the features that it offers... I get from alot of people that it is really bulky, but some don't mind the size(I work for a TMO indirect dealer)... Also, good luck on finding one from someone other then a TMO Corp store, I havent been able to get one for almost 3 weeks now...

Okay, so you are saying Its difficult to find a Sk2? Also, how is the MDA? I know the SK2 requires service fees, but the MDA seems cooler...will the fees for it be more?

T-Mobile has a lot of "cool" phone I think. The T809 is cool, the SK2 is cool, the PEBL is cool if you're the target market, and they have pretty cool rate plans. The SK2 is pretty big and the replacement is supposed to come out late this year. The SDA is nice if you want internet everywhere - it has wifi which is faster than EDGE and EDGE is faster than GPRS, which is what the SK2 has.

The MDA is a Pocket PC phone, you can use the $5.99 data or the $29.99. SK2 only has one option, $19.99 data. Unlike the SK2, you don't need a data plan to use the MDA.

The SKII is just wonderful? it is the most user friendly PDA on the market today and can wonderfully function for anything you need. The phone is loud and gets the best reception? it has the ability to store in a lot of contact and calendar info? the text messaging is also pretty fast and it?s a nice xperience to be connected to the instant messenger and emails all the time.

If you text furiously, IM alot, e-mail casually, and use it as a phone too. The sidekick is definitely a winner. Unless you want to goof around with hacking, the MDA is probably not for you. There is no way to put outside applications on the Sidekick without a dev key (don't ask, you won't be getting one), or ringers, etc. But for what it does, it is awesome. If the Sidekick 3 is coming soon, I might wait but for 19.99 unlimited text, e-mail, IM, web, etc. It's pretty dang good.

I have the sidekick II myself and I love it. From what you are saying it would probally be a good choice for you. There are a lot of games you can download in the store for it and you can use the internet unlmited for free.

Ok, so it looks like its boiling down to MDA vs SK2. I think the MDA will be more of my thing, because it can run apps and such. I;d love to have fun hacking it, Im in to that sorta stuff. Heh, would be cool getting an emulator on there even (if possible). So, I see that there is a $69.99 family plan (what we are most likeky to go with). How much extra will it cost to get the most out of the MDA?
